What are the responsibilities and job description for the Analytical Chemist position at Environmental Laboratories, Inc.?
Description
We're on a mission to help people learn about their water, but we need your help!
Are you a detail-oriented person looking for one of the best working environments in Madison, IN? Do you have experience analyzing samples with computer-based analytical instruments? Do you have a growth mindset? Do you enjoy working as part of a team, but doing so in a largely independent manner? Do you find satisfaction in solving problems?
ELI specializes in environmental analytical chemistry. We have an upbeat, positive, happy, down-to-earth culture where a natural curiosity about the world around us and a respect for one another (and our clients) is a part of everything we do. We place special emphasis on helping one another and doing excellent work; we don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we take our work very seriously. We’re looking for a new team member to fill a full-time, salaried position as a Analytical Production Chemist on our Analytical team. You’ll perform metals analysis on drinking water and waste water samples using our ICP, CVAA, and eventually our ICPMS. You should have at least 1 year of experience with instrumental analysis.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry
Responsibilities
You will be the person primarily responsible for performing metals analysis on water samples in our lab; you'll be responsible for multiple different analytical methods. Planning is an essential part of how we get things done on this team - planning your days/weeks based on your in-house sample load. So, if you're not naturally a big planner, we'll turn you into one after a few months on this team. You'll run your instruments/methods multiple times each week and regularly perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on your instruments.
We also do a fair bit of bacterial analysis, so we'll make you part of that daily rotation as well. Depending on your aptitude, you'll eventually have opportunities to cross train on other analytical methods beyond those for which you're primarily responsible. For the first several months as part of our team you’ll be learning at a geometric rate from capable, experienced scientists.
You don’t have to be a nerd to succeed as part of our team, although it does help; you just need to value hard work, have a servant’s heart, care about people, and be excited by the thought of working in a lab. We’re proud to provide all industry-specific knowledge and training on the job.
