POSITION SUMMARY: Chemists work in the field on customer locations conducting both chemical management/packaging/disposal services for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conducting routine inspection/audit services to assess customers’ compliance with hazmat storage, waste management, and occupational safety regulations.

  • Handling, classifying, segregating, labeling, and packaging hazardous and non-hazardous materials according to Federal and State regulations.

  • Training laboratory/production staff to understand proper chemical handling/storage techniques and relevant environmental laws.

  • Responding to emergency chemical spills and performing cleanup duties.

  • Preparing shipping documents and coordinating transportation of chemical products and hazardous waste materials to and from customer sites.

  • Performing consolidation of hazardous materials/waste (i.e., bulking, repackaging).

  • Providing expert knowledge on government regulations, health and safety practices, and proper disposal methods to customers.

  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in hazardous waste classification, lab pack segregation, and waste handling preferred

  • Working Knowledge of applicable DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations preferred

  • Must be willing and able to obtain a commercial driver’s license within 90 days of employment

  • Must be willing and able to wear and safely use all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) including air-purifying respirators

  • Pass a Pre-Employment Physical, Drug Screen and Alcohol testing

  • Pass a Pre-Employment Background Screening

  • Pass the Company's Auto Insurance Qualifiers

  • Pass the OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid Driver’s License

Additional Notes:

  • CDL B License Requirement: If you don’t already have a CDL B license, you will be required to obtain one after starting the role. We will assist in the process and provide support to help you secure the license.

  • Daily Responsibilities: In addition to the core tasks, you’ll be responsible for properly segregating and packaging materials in accordance with EPA/RCRA regulations, completing shipping documents, and ensuring load securement per DOT standards.

  • Work Environment: This is a 100% field-based role, primarily working in customer locations. Expect 80% indoor work and 20% outdoor work (e.g., hazardous waste or construction sites). Hours generally start at 7 AM, with some flexibility (early starts may occur). Shifts can end between 3 PM and 7 PM. The role requires flexibility, and candidates with rigid schedules (e.g., needing to leave early for personal reasons) may not be a good fit.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of regulations. You’ll be asked about material packing, shipping names, and chemical compatibility in the interview.

  • Team Dynamics: This position is 90% team-based, with potential solo projects (sampling, drum pickups) after 6 months.

  • Compensation: A $4,000 sign-on bonus is available for this role. For PA/MD locations, the compensation may be adjusted due to the non-union status.

SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION

Republic’s recent innovations to advance circularity and decarbonization demonstrate our unique ability to leverage sustainability as a platform for growth.

The Republic Services Polymer Center is the nation’s first integrated plastics recycling facility. This innovative site processes rigid plastics from our recycling centers, producing recycled materials that promote true bottle-to-bottle circularity. We also formed Blue Polymers, a joint venture with Ravago, to develop facilities that will further process plastic material from our Polymer Centers to help meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging. We are building a network of Polymer Centers and Blue Polymer facilities across North America.

We continue to advance decarbonization at our landfills. As demand for renewable energy continues to grow, we have 70 landfill gas-to-energy projects in operation and plan to expand our portfolio to 115 projects by 2028.
