What are the responsibilities and job description for the HR Generalist position at Environmental Works Inc?
Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) is seeking an HR Generalist to support day-to-day HR operations and become a trusted resource for our employees and managers. This role involves a blend of administrative tasks related to onboarding, offboarding, and tracking employee requirements, along with employee-facing duties to support employee relations and engagement. The HR Generalist will play a key role in ensuring smooth business operations and be an integral part of our HR /“People” Team.
HR Generalist | Essential Functions:
- Manage pre-hire tasks including sending offer letters, sending welcome emails, and creating employee profiles on internal systems.
- Coordinate pre-hire and annual screenings in DISA including physicals and motor vehicle record (MVR) checks.
- Schedule and coordinate pre-employment and random drug & alcohol (D&A) tests.
- Manage and maintain driver qualification (DQ) files using DISA to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Support the new employee onboarding process and serve as an alternative presenter for new hire orientations.
- Provide offboarding support by preparing the necessary paperwork, conducting exit interviews, communicating on the return of company property, and removing access to relevant systems.
- Ensure data is accurately added into internal systems- ADP, Learning Management System (LMS), and DISA.
- Respond to incoming employment verifications and unemployment claims.
- Provide status updates and answer questions related to hiring, onboarding, offboarding, and other HR processes.
- Provide additional support in all areas of HR as needed, which may include recruiting, payroll, corrective action, benefits, etc.

HR Generalist | Competencies:

HR Generalist | Education & Experience:
- 2 years of experience supporting HR responsibilities at a small or medium-sized company preferred.
- Secondary education or equivalent professional work experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, etc.).
- Knowledge of HRIS systems such as ADP.
- Familiar with software that provides background screening and drug & alcohol testing- experience with DISA is preferred!
Compensation:
- $50,000 - $65,000 annually.
