EnviroScience is currently seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician for our Laboratory Services Practice Area.
The Part-Time Laboratory Technician at EnviroScience will be responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the laboratory, focusing on environmental and biological sample analysis. This role is ideal for early-career professionals or individuals seeking flexible working hours. The technician will assist in sample preparation, data recording, and routine laboratory tests. Part-time technicians will work closely with the laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely analysis while adhering to safety and quality control standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in receiving, logging, and labeling samples (water, soil, and chemical materials) according to laboratory protocols.
- Prepare samples for testing, including filtration, homogenization, and aliquoting, ensuring they meet the standards for analysis.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests such as ecotoxicity testing, chemical analyses, or biological assays, adhering to all safety and quality protocols.
- Operate laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, and chlorine meter under the supervision of senior laboratory staff.
- Assist with preparing reagents and solutions necessary for testing procedures.
- Accurately document test results, observations, and sample conditions on laboratory bench sheets.
- Ensure that all data is entered correctly and in accordance with laboratory quality control procedures.
- Assist in maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Ensure laboratory workspaces are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Perform regular quality control checks on equipment and instruments.
- Collaborate with other laboratory technicians and scientists on testing protocols and experiments.
- Provide support for larger laboratory projects as needed, offering flexibility in scheduling during busy periods.
- Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment, including the proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Assist with quality assurance checks to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data.
- Education: Bachelors’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting (educational laboratory experience is acceptable).
- Availability to work flexible hours (part-time), including weekends.
- Experience:
o Familiarity with environmental testing
o Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and equipment.
o Strong attention to detail, particularly in documenting data and following protocols.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and procedures, including sample preparation and testing methods.
- Strong ability to accurately record and enter on bench sheets, ensuring high levels of precision and adherence to quality standards.
- Ability to manage time effectively while balancing multiple tasks in a part-time role.
- A strong focus on detail to ensure the quality and accuracy of laboratory work and data recording.
- Flexibility to work part-time hours that may fluctuate depending on laboratory needs, including supporting urgent projects.
