Supervisor I oversees on-site activities and is accountable for supervising and carrying out various tasks related to field and industrial service operations. Daily duties include overseeing tasks such as tank cleaning, manual remediation services, and waste collection and handling. They are involved daily in confined space entry for various cleaning and decontamination activities, such as oil spill cleanup, drum handling, sweeping, shoveling, high-pressure washing, and other remedial tasks. This role requires close collaboration with Project Managers, Drivers, Account Managers, and Customers in a supporting capacity.
Job Responsibilities:
Provides direct supervision, coordination and continuity to the assigned crew, and necessary communication from dispatch through the Operations Manager.
Performs Hazard Recognition Awareness to remove all hazards from the workplace.
Supervises the assigned personnel, equipment, material, and subcontractors for the assigned work.
Ensures work performance is planned and coordinated according to work plan schedule, quality, budget, and safety objectives.
Maintains the project worksite in a safe and environmentally sound condition per DOT, EPA and OSHA requirements.
Supervise assigned personnel and subcontractors. Initiate corrective action for unsatisfactory performance in accordance with company regulations.
Properly prepare work in advance with regards to equipment layout and hookup requirements and assigned crew work lists for setup, processing, rig-down and decontamination.
Ensure equipment is received and maintained in good working condition throughout the job. Report all deficiencies as they arise to dispatch and/or Operations Manager.
Initiate corrective action for any unsafe or environmentally unsound conditions. Report situation in accordance with company regulations and procedures.
Provide complete and accurate Job Service Receipts and Job Logs to required leadership or Account Manager.
Perform a variety of project related administrative and accounting tasks, in addition to maintaining the daily activities logbook, ensuring that all activity is properly documented
Continually assesses site conditions and activities and reports changes or concerns to the Project Manager.
Available to respond to emergency/time-critical incidents, chemical releases, natural disasters, derailments, transloading activities, transformer leaks, and various spills impacted by soil or water.
Perform physical labor associated with cleanup activities, sample collection, waste removal & other remediation services.
Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects electronically through Geotab™ & WhipAround™; also communicate issues with Dispatch and Supervisor
Assist in the setup, tear down & decontamination of equipment.
Follow applicable safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies and site-specific safety plans when performing cleanup activities and donning protective gear using appropriate techniques including handwork or manual work in accordance with established methods and applicable regulations
Actively participate in departmental performance initiatives to improve Team Member experience and cleanliness metrics (5S)
Conduct site communication meetings & job hazard analysis (JHA) with assigned teams or complete required JHA when working individually.
Required to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including FR uniform, hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots and leather gloves at minimum; respirator and protective clothing as instructed for designated tasks
Maintain supplies & equipment by properly stocking/restocking in neat, orderly fashion
Assist in warehouse maintenance, stocking supplies, building & grounds maintenance
Complete required daily timesheet, JHAs, spill reports, labels & manifest as required
Physically able to wear PPE when necessary and lift > 50lbs routinely
Broad equipment operating skills (vac truck, excavators), supervisor training and or experience.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Timely and dependable attendance required.
Must be flexible to work outside normal business hours as needed.
Must be prepared to work flexible or extended hours in inclement weather conditions, including heat, cold, & humidity
Willingness to enter confined spaces, work from heights & occasionally perform tasks from boats.
Able to work as part of a team and independently, under minimal supervision.
Qualifications
2 years relative field experience in Environmental Field or Industrial Services
1-2 years of Supervisory experience
Pass a Pre-Employment DOT Physical, Drug Screen and Alcohol testing
Pass a Pre-Employment Background Screening
Pass the Company's Auto Insurance Qualifiers
Pass the OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training
Must be 21 years of age or older
Able to read, write, and understand the English language, and able to follow verbal and written instructions
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Ability to work a rotating shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
