Job Description
A locally-owned and operated consulting firm is seeking a full-time Hazardous Materials Specialist for its Pearl
City office. The employee must possess the necessary knowledge, education, experience, physical abilities, and
communication skills to perform the duties described below:
Compile regulatory and job documents (e.g., shipping manifests, LDRN’s, job folders, etc.).
Assist with collecting multimedia samples supporting environmental investigation and remediation
projects.
Generally responsible for field activities related to waste management operations, including but not
limited to:
Coordinating with Managers, Supervisors, and co-workers, contacting and interacting with clients,
and properly labeling, marking, and manifesting shipments per applicable EPA and DOT
regulations.
Obeys all traffic laws and regulations while operating and driving a company vehicle.
Wears personal protective equipment as required by ETC, DOT, OSHA, and customer regulations.
Be able to travel inter-island frequently.
Must be in good physical health with no pre-existing conditions that prevent using a respirator or
personal protective equipment for field operations.
Pass an occupational physical and drug screen.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to approximately 30 lbs.
Use sound judgment to perform duties safely.
Perform all other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or other physical science.
Possess knowledge of various federal and state regulations, rules, and guidance documents related to the
generation, storage, packaging, transportation, and final disposition of solid waste, hazardous waste, and
related waste, which may include, but is not limited to RCRA, CERCLA and TSCA waste.
Proficient with PC and MS Office.
Valid Hawaii driver’s license, vehicle, and vehicle insurance
Strong reading comprehension, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with solid organization and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting, organize/manage multiple priorities, and conduct
problem analysis/resolution.
Positive attitude and excellent client service skills.
Must be able to interview in Honolulu/Pearl City.
Preference will be given to candidates with a commercial driver’s license or previous HazMat
experience.
