Test Automation Engineer

Envisagenics, Inc., a bioinformatics startup spun out of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and RNA therapeutics to discover new treatments for genetic diseases. We are currently seeking a Test Automation Engineer who is not only skilled in building and managing comprehensive test automation frameworks but also passionate about working across diverse technologies and collaborating closely with both engineering and business teams to ensure high-quality, reliable solutions.

Responsibilities

- Test Development: Write and execute a wide range of tests (unit, integration, performance, security) to validate functionality and ensure thorough coverage across the stack, working closely with business teams to capture edge cases.

- Automation Frameworks: Build and maintain automated testing pipelines for code, data, and infrastructure, using GitHub Actions, Azure Data Factory pipelines, and other mechanisms, streamlining the testing process and ensuring efficient continuous integration and deployment.

- Environment Setup: Collaborate with engineering to design and maintain Azure-based testing environments, mirroring production for accurate test results.

- Mocking & Data: Develop mocks, stubs, and sample data to support testing, particularly for complex, domain-specific requirements.

- Business Collaboration: Work closely with business teams to understand requirements and edge cases, translating them into test cases and helping build effective tests.

- End-to-End Testing: Ensure comprehensive testing across the entire stack (Python/Flask, Vue.js, Azure SQL DB, internal libraries, analytics pipelines, etc).

- Analytics Testing: Address challenges in automating tests for big data and domain-specific datasets within the analytics platform, ensuring data integrity and quality.

- Process Improvement: Continuously refine and improve testing processes for better coverage and efficiency, balancing automation with manual testing where necessary.

Skills and Qualifications

- 3-5 years Automation Expertise: Proficient in building test automation frameworks and pipelines using tools like pytest and GitHub Actions.

- Cloud & Programming: Strong knowledge of programming languages like Python, JavaScript, & Spark, to build and maintain test scripts.

- Data & Testing: Experience in testing big data and complex domains, particularly in environments where full automation is challenging. Familiarity with distributed data environments is a plus.

- Collaboration: Excellent communication skills for working with both technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure test accuracy and coverage.

- Adaptability: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage testing processes in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
