Job Description : \n\nDescription HCW Qualifications :

  • Degree : Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Education : Must possess a Master’s Degree in Nursing and have graduated from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3) : Possess and maintain at all times, at contractor expense, current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from the American Heart Association. Recertification shall be maintained at contractor expense in a current status at all times while the HCW is performing services under this contract. Any lapse in certification will cause immediate removal of the HCW until the certification is obtained and verified by the contractor.
  • Experience : The HCWs shall have a minimum of two year’s full-time experience as a hands-on practicing full scope Nurse Practitioner in the last three years. Time spent in an administrative capacity (claims reviewer, researcher, instructor, internet physician, medical director, etc.) does not qualify as practicing time. The HCWs shall be capable of treating patients of all ages.
  • Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4) : The HCW shall have and maintain certification as a nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Shall possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number as required by state agencies where the HCW is licensed.
  • Licensure / Registration : Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a nurse practitioner in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. The HCW shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted DEA certificate and possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number as required by state agencies where the HCW is licensed. The contractor shall not employ any individual to provide direct health care services who is listed on the Health and Human Services (HHS) list of HCWs excluded from Federally funded health care programs. The list may be found at http : / / oig.hhs.gov / fraud / exclusions.asp. The HCW shall not have been convicted of a felony. The HCW shall successfully complete a criminal history background check. The HCW shall be a U.S. citizen or otherwise meet the requirements of AR 25-2, Information Assurance. The HCW shall have knowledge of medical privacy and confidentiality (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA]), and accreditation standards of Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and TJC. HCWs registered or certified by national / medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for CME to remain current. CME shall be obtained at no additional cost to the Government and shall be reported to the COR annually on the first normal duty day in January for the previous calendar year. HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1) : The duties for the CRNA HCW are as follows :
  • The Contractor shall provide Nurse Practitioner services to authorized beneficiaries of any age per AR 40-3, AR 40-50 and in accordance with established principles, practices and standards of the JC, and the Defense Health Agency.
  • The HCWs shall perform all procedures and duties that are normal to the scope of a Nurse Practitioner and for which privileges are granted by the MTF. These are essentially the same duties as those required of any Medical Corps Officer or government Civil Service HCW of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.
  • The HCWs shall provide care for outpatients and inpatients as needed. The HCWs shall have inpatient admitting responsibilities and perform inpatient rounds. The HCWs shall perform chart reviews and attend medical staff meetings as part of the normal workday.
  • The HCW shall treat a scheduled number of patients per day. This number is dependent on the business model and current Standard Operating Procedure and is consistent for military, civilian or contract HCW. The current model is an average of 21 patients per day for an 8-hour shift and 27 patients per day for a 10-hour shift to include completing charting, processing telephone consults and review radiology / lab results and is subject to change at any time.
  • The HCW shall provide initial emergency medical care required to any civilian, military, or military beneficiary requiring it in life threatening situations. Patients shall be transferred to the appropriate military or civilian hospital when the attending HCW determines that the patient is stable enough to make the trip.
  • The HCWs shall provide comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services e.g., diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance, and rehabilitation. The HCW shall manage the health care needs of patients with serious illnesses through consultation or direct referral to specialty physicians.
  • The HCWs shall interview patients, diagnose illnesses, prescribe treatments and medicine, perform minor surgery, and refer patients to military or civilian hospitals for more complex medical problems.
  • The HCW shall perform only those services for which privileges have been granted by the GLWACH credentials committee and the Hospital Director.
  • The HCW shall see patients in the inpatient setting at GLWACH as needed.
  • The HCW shall only prescribe medications within the scope of work of the HCW. Medications beyond the scope of work of the HCW require interaction with physicians from other clinics.
  • The HCW shall complete medical records, forms and documents within time limits specified by GLWACH for the type of medical entry being made.
  • The HCW shall check GLWACH e-mail daily since the HCW will work varying schedules and GLWACH e-mail is the official method of internal communications.
  • The HCW shall take the patient history and perform medical surveillance physicals on appointed military and Department of Army Civilians.
  • The HCW shall request lab tests, x rays, pharmaceuticals, referrals, etc. via the MHS Genesis or current computer system. The HCW shall request consultations and procedures as considered appropriate.
  • The HCW shall study health records and evaluate the significance of total clinical evidence. The HCW shall read and abide by AR 40 3 Medical, Dental, and Veterinary Care, AR 40 66 Medical Records and DODI 6025.13 Clinical Quality Management. The HCW shall make periodic follow up examinations of patients to determine progress and reaction to treatment, review clinical evidence to detect deviation from normal disease course, and determine the patient's progress.
  • When deemed appropriate, the HCW shall consult with other physicians concerning the significance of symptoms and interpretations, prepare clinical reports of each examination, consultation and diagnosis and record other pertinent data in the appropriate format. The HCW shall maintain accurate and up to date records, including daily man hours.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and / or in consultation with a physician.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans / actions, for teaching / education to benefit the patient / family and organization.
  • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.
  • The HCW shall be capable of performing the full range of family practice services including diagnosis and treatment of urgent / acute diseases / injuries to include but not limited to : Skin, Pulmonary System, Head Gastrointestinal System Eyes, Musculoskeletal System Ears, Genitourinary System, Nose Reproductive System, Throat Lymphopoietic System Neck Central Nervous System Cardiovascular System Endocrine System.
  • The HCWs shall be capable of performing the following tasks as a minimum : - Manage cardiopulmonary arrests and arrange back up for EMS - Interpret electrocardiograms - Interpret basic radiographic images - Direct medical care through radio communications - Perform arterial punctures - Interpret cardiac monitoring Infiltration of local anesthesia I & D of simple abscesses - Suturing of lacerations - Perform closed cardiac massage - Perform needle aspiration of tension pneumothorax - Perform adult lumbar puncture - Splint and immobilize simple fractures - Emergency endotracheal intubations - Emergency cardioversion - Obtain central venous access. - Additional duties as required The HCWs shall be able to provide services between the hours of 06 : 00 a.m. to 6 : 00 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Shifts may be 8-10 hours in length and 4-5 days per week at the discretion of GLWACH for a total of 40 hours per week. Workdays may or may not be consecutive Key Responsibilities HCW Qualifications :
