Job Description:
As a member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient loading and handling of bulk cargo onto a vessel at a barge. This includes operating heavy equipment such as loaders, cranes, and ship loaders to safely load bulk unpackaged materials while following all regulations and safety guidelines to meet load rates and quality targets.
Responsibilities:
- Follow all workplace and job safety procedures.
- E nsure the vessel is loading correctly (load rate, gate control, fine mitigation).
- Understand load plan and maintain to customer satisfaction.
- Keep accurate records of cargo handled, including weights, measurements, and quantities.
- Operate heavy equipment on vessel - loaders, cranes, and ship loader.
- Perform equipment inspections and all rigging.
- Identify upset conditions or potential failure points.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting, enter work orders, and assist maintenance with repairs.
- Keep areas clean, neat, and orderly to meet housekeeping standards.
- Communicate to Operations team, including ship crew.
- Other related duties as assigned and serve as a backup resource as needed.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work multiple shift schedules and rotating shifts as required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage priorities and schedule to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience with bulk material loading.
- Previous experience in Maritime industry.
- Mechanical aptitude.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in outdoor environment and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
- Work includes high places more than 175 feet, use main lifts, and work in confined spaces.
- Willing and able to maintain a strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and overnight to address unexpected site issues with or without notice.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and crawling and pulling for up to twelve (12) hours per day.
- Able to work in high places more than 175 feet, use man lifts, and work in confined spaces.
- Able to work around moving equipment and machinery.
- Able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to safely and successfully perform and essential job functions consistent with ADA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
