What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reporter position at EO Media Group?
The East Oregonian has an immediate opening for a full-time, regional reporter who can find sharp, engaging stories that will be displayed prominently throughout our region's six Eastern Oregon news websites and in print in the East Oregonian.
This position will write stories to inform and engage our readers in La Grande, Pendleton, Baker City, Enterprise, Hermiston and John Day by having a finger on the pulse of common topics important to all of these communities. We value news judgement, accurate and timely reporting, creativity, and the ability to tell a story in both words and image.
You must have the ability to meet deadlines, turn around story assignments, shoot and edit photos for your stories and write accurate and informative photo cutlines. Video editing is a preference but not a requirement. You will be posting content online and to social media sites.
Experience with online news and social media, using Photoshop and AP Style and copyediting is preferred.
Travel in the region and reliable transportation are a must. A valid in-state driver's license and good driving record are required. You will have a flexible schedule which may include some nights and weekends.The position may be based in Pendleton, La Grande, or John Day, depending upon the candidate's preference. Full-time hours are 37.5 hours per week.
The region offers year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, a burgeoning arts community, Eastern Oregon University and Blue Mountain Community college and world class events and festivals from Fishtrap writers workshops to Pendleton Round-Up rodeo. The region is home to Wallowa Lake, Hells Canyon and the Blue Mountains, in between the Tri-Cities of Washington and Boise, Idaho.
