Primary Purpose:
Assist teachers with behavior and instructional support. Assist teachers in the preparation and management of the classroom including diffusing disruptive student behavior to refocus and transition students into classroom activities. Work directly under the supervision of the Site Manager with guidance from the Behavior Specialist.
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or willing to study and get one
- Associate degree in Early childhood Education, Child Development, or related degree preferred
- Experience working with children with challenging behaviors
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to assist in behavior management and intervention.
Ability to assist in classroom preparation and instruction.
Ability to work well with children.
Ability to communicate effectively
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the intervention and management of student behavior under the direct supervision of the Site Manager and/or guidance of the Behavior Specialist.
- Assist in the instruction of children under the direct supervision of the Site Manager and/or guidance of the Behavior Specialist.
- Diffuse disruptive behaviors, refocus, and transition the child into classroom activities.
- Assist teachers in the preparation of instruction.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required behavior and/or instructional-related reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Keep the teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development, including specialized training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in staff meetings, staffings, one-on-one meetings, and/or training with the Behavior Specialist.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to think clearly in a stressful situation and high-stress tolerance required, high physical stamina necessary, and extended amount of walking necessary.
- Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
- Constant contact with children, parents and staff.
- Travel between site assignments.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 35 pounds.
Salary : $27,978 - $30,198
