JOB SUMMARY: The Environmental Specialist II is responsible for participating in a wide range of projects which may include building material inspections to employee exposure assessments. The Environmental Specialist II must possess the ability and willingness to coach and mentor other environmental specialists at the I level.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
- Conduct building materials inspections, compile reports, and complete reviews
- Conducting industrial hygiene assessments for chemical and noise exposures
- Site visits include field sampling, data collection, field equipment operation, and other field activities associated with environmental projects
- Working closely with Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs) and Project Managers to assist clients with various services including ACM sampling, Indoor Air Quality Assessments, Microbial growth surveys, chemical exposure monitoring, chemical inventories, water sampling, commercial asset tagging, and building material testing
- Works independently on projects ranging from small to medium and assists senior staff on larger projects
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
- Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group’s culture of safety and employee ownership
- Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

- Position will require occasional travel
- 30%-50% travel including some overnight travel within the United States and occasional nights/weekends may be required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or similar field. In the absence of a degree, equivalent combination of education, training, or experience
- 2-5 years’ experience in the environmental field
- Must be capable of working while wearing a negative pressure respirator without restriction
- Iowa Asbestos Inspector License (if not held, must be able and willing to obtain)
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (if not held, must be able and willing to obtain)
- Certifications within the fields of asbestos, lead-based paint, radon, and OSHA are a plus
- Ability to coordinate field work
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office products, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and time management skills
- Be organized and detail oriented
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience with building systems and mapping software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Iowa Asbestos Management Planner License
- Iowa Asbestos Project Designer License
- NIOSH 582 Certification
- Iowa Lead-Based Paint Inspector/Risk Assessor License
- Iowa Radon Measurement Specialist License
- Prior experience in consulting
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds, on occasion
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions in outdoor and indoor environments
- Must be comfortable utilizing hand tools and ladders to perform inspection activities
