What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Financial Planning Analyst position at EOG Resources?
This position is a key member of the financial planning team, which is responsible for developing information about EOG's progress delivering on its value proposition. This includes preparing the five-year plan, annual plan, monthly forecast, and constructing financial models for other assignments. The position regularly interacts with individuals throughout EOG's decentralized organization, including executive management, operations, accounting, tax, and financial reporting. Prospective candidates must possess very strong critical thinking, financial, and analytical skills, be adept at Excel, collaborate well in a team-based environment, multi-task and prioritize competing demands, and have the flexibility and drive to complete assignments on schedule.

- Design and maintain complex financial planning models (integrated financial statements, revenue, expense, capital, and production schedules, income tax and pricing models) and utilize the financial reporting system to accurately populate those models.
- Identify and implement changes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the forecasting process.
- Provide analysis of historical and future financial performance to uncover trends, confirm assumptions, validate output of the financial models, identify root causes and apply insights into reports and future projections.
- Conduct financial analysis and prepare presentations for CFO, CEO and Board of Directors.
- Perform the quarterly fair value test for producing properties in accordance with accounting standard ASC 360.
- Support operating divisions with data uploads to the financial reporting system and other requested assistance.
- Create financial scenarios, analyze performance metrics, and perform other ad hoc assignments.
- Bachelor's degree.
- CPA or CFA designation a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in equity research, investment management, investment banking, corporate finance/planning, accounting, or a related field.
- Highly proficient in Excel modeling. Experience with financial reporting systems a plus (Hyperion/Oracle, OneStream).
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and financial statement analysis.
- Strong analytical/quantitative skills, critical thinker, ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment, attention to detail, forward-looking mindset, innovative problem-solver, highly organized and motivated with ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting rigorous deadlines.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and possess sound judgement to apply discretion appropriately.
