WHAT YOU WILL DO:
We are looking for a highly experienced Field Service Data Center Project Manager to oversee and manage end-to-end delivery of networking and dark fiber projects, including Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure. This role will involve coordinating the construction, installation, and maintenance of fiber systems and data center network infrastructure across multiple locations globally. The successful candidate will manage key relationships with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on-time, within budget, and in compliance with all relevant standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Leadership
- Lead and manage complex infrastructure projects, including dark fiber, ISP, and OSP installations, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality services.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of data center projects from inception to completion, including design, procurement, implementation, and final handover to the operational teams.
- Ensure projects align with client expectations, service level agreements (SLAs), and performance metrics.
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution, from network design through to deployment and commissioning.
Field Services Network Design & Deployment
- Work closely with the design teams and engineering teams to develop solutions for dark fiber provisioning, ISP/OSP architecture, and data center connectivity.
- Ensure fiber optic cable deployments follows industry best practices and complies with local regulations, standards, and codes.
- Review network design specifications, including circuit design, cable routes, and splicing methods.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate and maintain effective communication with internal teams, external vendors, subcontractors, and third-party contractors.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to clarify project requirements, provide status updates, and manage expectations.
- Manage all vendor relationships, ensuring that service levels, quality, and deadlines are met.
- Resource Management
- Ensure resources (personnel, equipment, materials) are appropriately allocated and optimally utilized.
Risk & Quality Management
- Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, including delays, project overruns, and technical challenges.
- Ensure all deliverables meet the required quality standards, and take corrective actions when needed to address quality issues.
- Implement regular quality control checks and ensure that all work complies with safety, environmental, and industry standards.
Reporting & Documentation
- Provide detailed progress reports to senior management and stakeholders on project timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including drawings, contracts, and change orders.
- Prepare and present technical reports, risk assessments, and project updates regularly to clients and senior leadership.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure that all projects follow safety protocols and industry regulations to guarantee a safe working environment for all team members.
- Comply with local, national, and international regulations for fiber optic installations, OSP/ISP projects, and data center operations.
Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate the performance of completed projects to identify areas of improvement and implement lessons learned for future initiatives.
- Explore opportunities for automation and optimization in fiber optic network design and data center operations.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Experience & Technical Expertise
- 5 years** of experience managing fiber network deployment, specifically dark fiber, ISP/OSP installations, and data center projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of **fiber optic technology**, **cable splicing**, **fiber design**, and **data center infrastructure**.
- Experience with project management tools, including **MS Project**, **Primavera**, or other project tracking and scheduling software.
- In-depth knowledge of **fiber optic standards** (e.g., ITU, ANSI, TIA/EIA, IEEE) and **safety regulations**.
- Familiarity with **fiber optic testing**, troubleshooting, and commissioning procedures.
- Experience in managing **multi-vendor environments** and third-party contractors.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Strong ability to manage customer expectations and deliver exceptional service in line with SLAs.
- Experience in **client-facing** roles with the ability to communicate complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven track record of managing stakeholder relationships, including vendors, clients, and contractors.
Project Management & Leadership Skills
- PMP, PRINCE2, or similar certification is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-phased projects with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Problem Solving & Risk Management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
- Ability to address issues and conflicts quickly, while ensuring that quality and project milestones are maintained.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with cloud data center operations and understanding of cloud connectivity requirements.
- Understanding of SDN (Software-Defined Networking) or other modern network technologies is a plus.
- Familiarity with fiber optic network monitoring tools and performance analytics.
