Highlights of the job

We are hiring up to one (1) Full-Time Permanent Power Electrician 1 position in Edmonton, AB; with the Operations Protection/SCADA team. This opportunity is open to internal and external applications.

As the Power Electrician 1, you work with a variety of equipment such as protective relays, breakers, disconnects, switchgear, transformers and other related substation equipment to ensure proper operation. You will work alongside the Protection/SCADA team members and report directly to the Operations Manager.

What you’d be responsible for

• Maintaining tools and equipment.
• Compiling reports.
• Keeping accurate records.
• Reading schematics and diagrams.
• Performing operational checks and acceptance tests.
• Conducting substation switching.
• Installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing protective relays.
• Installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing high voltage apparatus.
• Assisting with other substation related duties as required.

What’s required to be successful

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Journeyman Power Systems Electrician certificate
• 3rd or 4th year Power System Electrician apprentices that are previously indentured may be considered based on substation work experience.
• Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma considered an asset.
• 3 years of recent power substations related experience as a certified journeyman Power System Electrician or Power System Electrical apprentice.
• Protection & Control experience is considered an asset
• Knowledge and experience working with medium and high voltage substation equipment
• Willing and able to work with energized high voltage equipment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file)
  • A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required
• Clearance on background check requirements related to ARS CIP
• Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons
  • Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis

You are a team player who is professional, detail oriented, has highly developed judgment and possesses problem-solving skills. You use your written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with others. As such, you possess a high level of safety awareness and demonstrate safe work practices at all times. Candidates will be required to participate in safety and other job-related training.
