We are hiring a full time, permanent Senior Analyst, Finance position working out of Edmonton, AB.
The Senior Analyst, Finance is accountable for preparation, analysis and evaluation of IFRS and regulatory budgets and forecasts and full-cycle accounting for our North American Commercial Services business unit; this role is also responsible for supporting regulatory rate filings and month end and quarterly reporting.
This position is eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program.
What you’d be responsible for
- Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics by producing accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting while ensuring that Corporate and Business Unit financial deadlines are met
- Identifying and evaluating financial reporting needs, data requirements and business processes to support reliable financial reporting
- Assessing risks of changes to financial reporting systems, developing testing procedures/scenarios accordingly and evaluating the test results
- Supporting leadership decision making by facilitating and providing guidance and financial analysis that adds value to the business areas and allows for strategically sound decisions making
- Ensuring proper accounting treatments for routine, non-routine and complex transactions
- Researching appropriate accounting standards and developing recommendations on moderately complex accounting policies under IFRS accounting standards supporting the adequacy of financial statements disclosure against IFRS requirements
- Contributing to the ongoing process improvement initiative and assisting with special projects, as required, such as providing input and support for software system upgrades or replacements
- Maintain high quality internal controls, including providing inputs to the design of controls for new processes and transactions
What’s required to be successful
- Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance or Accounting from a recognized education institution is required
- Professional accounting designation
- Minimum 4 years’ directly related accounting experience including, but not limited to:
- Developing appropriate accounting policies and procedures
- Evaluating financial reporting needs, data requirements and business processes to support reliable financial reporting
- Designing analytical and financial reports to meet reporting needs identified
- Assessing risks of changes to financial reporting systems, developing testing procedures/scenarios accordingly and evaluating the test results
- Preparing, analyzing and evaluating budget and forecasts
- Evaluating sources and drivers of revenue/costs
- Liaising with external and internal auditors
- Strong analytical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Ability to apply accounting standards knowledge and judgment to research and develop recommendations on moderately complex accounting policies in accordance with regulatory and EPCOR policies and standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience designing, implementing documenting or auditing processes/controls
- Experience in contract review and contract management
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities effectively
- Ability to review processes to assess compliance with CSOX requirements
- Experience with budgeting and ERP/reporting software for large organizations (e.g. Oracle GL systems, Workday Adaptive Planning and Office Connect, and Oracle Business Intelligence)
