We are hiring a Full Time, Permanent position in EPCOR’s White Tanks Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant in Surprise, Az.
This individual will work at EPCOR’s largest surface water treatment plant in Arizona. Operator will perform plant operations duties including checking, troubleshooting and improving water production facility, process control, maintaining equipment, chemical handling, as well as system sampling and lab work to ensure treated water meets County, State and EPA quality standards. Conducts various tests to determine proper chemical feed rates, calculates chemical feed rates and changes pump settings as needed. Monitors and operates telemetry systems, and completes maintenance and operations records.
What you’d be responsible for
Receive job assignments through work orders and verbal instructions from Operations Foreman or Operations Supervisor, and is expected to carry projects through to completion with limited supervision. Participates through hands-on work, prioritizes assignments and decides what equipment and materials are needed to accomplish them. Must be able to read and interpret water facility plans and lab data.
What’s required to be successful
Must have some working knowledge or interest in learning about all of the various aspects of surface water treatment operations including:
- Water treatment and water distribution systems,
- safety practices in the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment used in water,
- ability to perform accurate arithmetic computations,
- process control and laboratory procedures,
- procedures, materials, tools, equipment and safety hazards and precautions common to assigned area of responsibility,
- Experience in the use of computer spreadsheet programs and data collection software.
- Schedule is Rotating Four 10 hour shifts. Working one weekend a month and ability to work on call schedule.
Ability to use both hand and power tools. Able to work rotating schedules, nights, and weekends. Ability to perform standardized water quality tests; familiarity with drinking water rules and regulations. Ability to read and interpret meters, charts, gauges and recording devices. May be required to move heavy objects. Able to continually lift, bend, climb stairs and work with mechanical hand tools.
All candidates must have High School diploma or equivalent, and valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Operator I requirements:
Must have at least 1 years of experience in the operation of water facilities; and must also have the following certifications for water operator eligibility:
Water: ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment certifications
Distribution: ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution certifications
Operator II requirements:
Must have at least 2 years of experience in the operation of water facilities; and must also have the following certifications for water operator eligibility:
Water: ADEQ Grade 2 Water Treatment certifications
Distribution: ADEQ Grade 2 Water Distribution certifications
Must be able to prepare necessary relevant spreadsheets and word documents using various software programs as required.
Operator III requirements:
Must have at least 3 years of experience in the operation of water facilities; and must also have the following certifications for water operator eligibility:
Water: ADEQ Grade 3 Water Treatment certifications
Distribution: ADEQ Grade Distribution 3 certifications
Must be able to prepare necessary relevant spreadsheets and word documents using various software programs as required.

This person must be dependable, reliable and self-directed. Must be able to be at work every day on time and able to work rotating schedules. Individuals filling this position must operate Company owned vehicles in a safe manner, and have a valid Arizona driver’s license with good driving record. An Arizona Class D driver’s license.
This position is subject to paid call back, overtime and week-end/holiday emergency call-outs and on-call duty. Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat in the outdoors.
