We are hiring two (2) full-time temporary Water Plant Operator positions for up to 11 months working in Edmonton, Alberta!
This opportunity is open to external and internal applicants.
What you’d be responsible for
- Providing input to the operations plans and directions.
- Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics, including:
- Meeting or exceeding conditions of the Approval to Operate in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
- Providing the highest quality service, while being cost effective and exceeding internal water quality and production goals.
- Recording and effectively communicating all significant operational events and daily operational activities.
- Ensuring the Water Treatment Plants are maintained through timely maintenance and safe and clean working environments.
- Assisting with the coordination of Hazardous Energy Isolation activities for maintenance, engineering and contractors, and scheduled Plant shutdowns.
- Operating the distribution and process computers and performing established water quality tests.
- Ensuring the safe operation of plant equipment, and setting and monitoring chemical feed rates.
- Updating and maintaining documentation and logs pertaining to tests and processes.
- Correcting minor operating problems and performing other related duties as required.
What’s required to be successful
Qualifications, experience and behaviors you will possess are:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent level of secondary education.
- Completion of a recognized Water and Wastewater Technician program.
- Possess an Alberta Level I Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate.
- Strong understanding of Plant operations.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook, SharePoint and SCADA.
- Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviors will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).
- A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required.
- Drivers with a GDL class may be considered (limited to 3 demerits and pending driving behavior review referenced above).
- Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons.
- Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis.

Wage: Starting at $42.75 per hour (Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is subject to change based on the ratification of the new Collective Agreement.)
Hours of work: 80 hours biweekly (this position may require participation in rotating shift work).
