Job Summary:
The Lead Electrical Field Technician will lead a team of field service/technical service technicians to repair and upgrade electrical equipment, often in remote locations. Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical assets, such as switchboards, inverter racks, auxiliary transformers, circuit breakers, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Service and Equipment Maintenance:
- Diagnose and Repair: Identify faulty equipment, troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean equipment/components in switchboards, low voltage, and medium voltage AC power systems. Able to perform accurate, precision wiring with 16 gauge and larger wiring, micro breakers, shunt trips, fuses, and etc.
- Testing and Inspection: Perform low voltage testing of electrical power equipment.
- Component Replacement: Replace or repair faulty components, including panels, wiring, and electrical/mechanical parts.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed. Complete job close-out reports with detailed notes, descriptions, and photos.
- Equipment Troubleshooting: Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering personnel to troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure optimal functioning.
- Parts and Equipment: Procure parts and equipment on an as-needed basis.
- Damage Investigations: Perform damage and claims investigations, warranty repairs, and system upgrades.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of junior technicians, providing guidance and support.
- Scheduling and Coordination: Coordinate with local field representatives, customers, and stakeholders to optimize maintenance schedules. Interface with project subcontractors.
- Site Safety and Protocols: Develop and implement site safety plans, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and JHA (Job Hazard Analysis) requirements.
- On-Call: Participate in an on-call schedule for emergency response.
- Customer Interaction: Provide high-quality service, ensuring a professional and positive representation of EPEC to customers and stakeholders.
- Feedback for Improvement: Offer feedback to leadership on ways to improve QT/EPEC’s maintenance processes and equipment quality.
Required:
- Experience: 3 years of related electrical maintenance experience and 1 year leading or managing field technicians.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Physical Requirements: Able to lift up to 70 lbs., climb ladders, stand and squat for extended periods, and work in tight spaces/enclosures.
- Travel: Must be able to travel extensively (50-85% domestic travel), including to remote locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be able to operate company-rented vehicles.
- Drug and Background Checks: Able to pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
- Technical Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Low Voltage AC Power Systems: Theory, drawings, and practical application.
- Electrical Tools: Use of hand tools, electrical tools (multimeter), and testing equipment such as Megger and Hi-Pot.
- OSHA Regulations: Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA): Ability to create and follow JHA procedures.
- Industry Codes and Standards: Familiarity with NEC 70 and SCADA systems.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- OSHA Certification.
- Technical Education: Associate’s degree in a technical field or Military experience preferred.
- Equipment Knowledge: Experience with circuit breakers, LV/MV transformers, and switchboards.
- Test Equipment Knowledge: Experience with Megger and Hi-Pot test equipment.
