Job Summary

Computed tomography (CT) integrates scientific knowledge, technical competence and patient interaction skills to provide safe and accurate procedures with compassion. A CT Technologist recognizes patient conditions essential for the successful completion of the procedure. CT Technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology and medical terminology. They must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. CT Technologists must possess, use and maintain knowledge about radiation safety. CT Technologists prepare, administer and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws or lawful institutional policy.

CT Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of diagnostic, therapeutic, interventional and fusion computed tomography procedures. CT Technologists are the primary liaison between patients, licensed independent practitioners, and other members of the support team. CT Technologists must remain sensitive to the needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring and patient care skills. As members of the health care team, CT Technologists participate in quality improvement processes and continually assess their professional performance.

CT Technologists think critically and use independent, professional and ethical judgments in all aspects of their work. They engage in continuing education to include their area of practice to enhance patient care, radiation safety, public education, knowledge and technical competence.

Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology. Must possess an unrestricted KBMIRT Radiation Operators Licensee. Requires ARRT advanced certification in computerized tomography (CT). Minimum of three years of experience. Exhibits F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).”

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Works in a radiation exposure area. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Long periods in a stationary position or moving around the unit are required. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently. A flexible work schedule is required.

Patient, family members and significant others, physicians and Associates, other healthcare providers, community resource personnel, administrative staff and the organization’s support services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:

Education: Graduate of AMA/JRCERT approved school of Radiologic Technology. Must possess and unrestricted KBMIRT radiation operations license. ARRT CT registry is required and must be completed within 12 months of the date of hire.

Experience: Five (5) years’ experience is required.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:

Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology. Advanced registry in Computerized Tomography (CT) Must possess a valid unrestricted KBMIRT Radiation Operators License, on file, in the Department of Human Resources. CPR required.
