Role Description
This position will encompass working with the Danville Schools, teaching and developing class curriculum. The RN is a nursing professional care provider under the direction of the director or designee who utilizes the nursing process, nursing standards and physicians orders to plan, provide and direct nursing practice. Accomplishment of nursing practice that includes practice elements as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork. Responsible to participate in shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity and safety for the patient and their family. Accountable for leadership of self and others. Participates in direct patient care as needed. Exhibits F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).”
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working with the Danville Schools. Teaching and developing class curriculum.
- Responsible for developing clinical programs which include: (a) assessment of knowledge of the nursing process, psychomotor skills for performance of clinical procedures and psychosocial skill necessary to teach patients and families and communicate with colleagues and physicians, (b)orientation to clinical procedures, (c)validating competence in specific areas. Examples: Chest Tubes, Ports, Trachs and Moderate Sedation.
- Provides backup for BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other specialty certifications for Nursing as assigned.
- Promotes professional nursing and advances in nursing science through development of in-services and continuing education units using current literature and professional knowledge or computer based education techniques. This may be accomplished through theory and research application or introduction into practice and education programs through current knowledge gained from literature, electronic data and personal educational pursuits.
- Functions as a Facilitator to promote the excellent practice of nursing, utilizing education and skills to demonstrate care in the domains of prevention, maintenance and restoration.
- Interacts with clinical directors to identify needs and improve nursing education and practice specific to their areas.
- Develops skills check-offs when needed for new procedures in nursing.
- Helps facilitate annual Skills/Review Day.
Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or equivalent and advanced certification nationally recognized in specialty area of nursing practice preferred. MSN preferred.
- Experience: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three-five years of ED and/or varied critical care experience. Will consider a motivated candidate with five years of Med/Surg experience. Teaching experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
- KY RN license, Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications required upon hire. The aforementioned certifications will require instructor status within six months of hire. Specialty Certification in area of practice preferred.
