Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under moderate direction of the System Director Lab & Pathology Services, collects laboratory specimens by venipuncture for subsequent testing. Performs additional basic laboratory procedures under close direction of the System Director Lab & Pathology Services as proficiency is demonstrated and documented. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works standard work week with overtime as necessary. Staffing may require alteration to regularly scheduled shift. Moderate to heavy physical exertion. Potential exposure to laboratory chemicals that may be toxic, caustic, or flammable. Moderate stress level. The task of this job involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Frequent direct patient contact. Contact with physicians, visitors, family members, Associates, and in outpatient area with Radiology and EKG Associates.
EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Automated and non-automated Laboratory instrumentation and tools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:
Education: Acquired technical or specialized skills normally associated with a training program of less than two (2) years duration beyond successful completion of High School or equivalent. Suitable experience would substitute for education.
Experience: One (1) year Laboratory experience preferred with proven competency skills. Computer skills, Medical Terminology required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
CMA or certification as a Phlebotomist preferred.
