JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Surgical Swing & CCU Director is responsible for the implementation of the vision, mission, philosophy and core values of the Organization and of Ephraim McDowell Health Nursing within defined areas of responsibility as well as for establishing and fulfilling department-specific strategic and operational goals and objectives. Accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer to maintain 24/7 leadership and supervision of designated departments so that safe, quality, cost-effective and comprehensive services are provided. Directs the nursing practice of professionals and support personnel in accordance with standards of practice as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Coordinates nursing care in a manner that promotes shared nursing leadership and collaboration with other disciplines to accomplish patient and family-centered care. Case Management for the swing program, the director performs utilization review for a candidate for potential admission to Swing Bed as requested by Case Management.
The EMJBH Chief Nursing Officer will serve as the immediate supervisor to the Director of Medical Surgical, Swing, and CCU. The Hospital Administrator and the Director of Medical Surgical, Swing, and CCU are responsible to work with, consult, and collaborate with the community as a Case Management representative of the EMH Continuum of Care service line (Swing Beds).
WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS, AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Schedule may consist of weekends, holidays and shift work. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Long periods in a stationary position and moving around the unit are required. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and antineoplastic agents. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently.

Patient, family members and significant others, physicians and Associates, other healthcare providers, community resource personnel, administrative staff and Organizational support services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience: Minimal four (4) years of clinical expertise preferred. Certification in specialty preferred; required within two (2) years. Participation in a professional organization related to the specialty preferred. Requires understanding and knowledge base of the CMS guidelines and regulations.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (successful completion within three [3] months of employment). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications (successful completion within three [3] months of employment). Current Kentucky Driver’s License. CPI certification within 6 months.
