The RN is a nursing professional care provider under the direction of the director or designee who utilizes the nursing process, nursing standards and physicians orders to plan, provide and direct nursing practice. Accomplishment of nursing practice that includes practice elements as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork. Responsible to participate in shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity and safety for the patient and their family. Accountable for leadership of self and others and functions as charge nurse when designated. Exhibits F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).
Essential Job Duties
- Performs age specific Medical Surgical/Oncology/Pediatrics/End of Life Care nursing assessments.
- Assesses age specific Medical Surgical/Oncology/Pediatrics/End of Life Care safety issues (National Patient Safety Goals, Safe Patient Handling, Restraints, Pediatric Infant Abduction, etc.) .
- Plans/Individualizes/Prioritizes Medical Surgical/Oncology/Pediatric/End of Life care to meet patient/family support person needs.
- Educates Medical Surgical/Oncology/Pediatric/End of Life patient/family/support person needs according to diagnosis, safety, medications, treatments, procedures, and discharge planning.
- Knowledgeable of and practices according to Medical Surgical/Oncology/Pediatrics/End of Life Care policies and procedures (Core Measures, chemotherapy, IV push meds, blood, deep lines, port-a-caths, subclavians, blood cultures, pediatric venipunctures, etc.).
- Interprets Medical/Surgical/Oncology/Pediatrics/End of Life Care patient data and responses.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.

- Other duties as assigned (committee participation and unit specific performance audits, etc.).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:
Education: Graduate of an accredited ADN nursing program.
Experience: None.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
Current license in the state of Kentucky. Basic Life Support certification (successful completion within three [3] months of employment).
