Part-time Church Custodian

Job Summary
The Church Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall upkeep of the church building and grounds. This includes general cleaning, minor repairs, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all who visit.

Responsibilities
This is what you’ll spend your time on...

General Cleaning

• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in all areas of the church (sanctuary, offices, classrooms, restrooms, etc.)
• Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and kitchen areas.
• Gather and empty trash and recycling bins.
• Scrub, sanitize, and supply restroom facilities.
• Perform heavy cleaning duties - sets a schedule for keeping up with monthly or quarterly tasks.
• Keep the building clean, attractive, and well‐maintained, inside and out.
• Wash windows and mirrors.
• Maintain cleanliness of common areas, including hallways and stairways.

Grounds maintenance

• Maintain attractive grounds, including parking lots and landscaping, and shovel snow if necessary. We hire landscapers and snow removal companies but will need you to fill in the gaps, as needed.

Minor Repairs

• Perform basic repairs such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, and patching small holes in walls.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of chairs and tables for events.
• Assist with the maintenance of church equipment (e.g., audio-visual equipment, furniture).
• Perform routine maintenance activities.

Safety and Security

• Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor.
• Ensure the security of the church building and grounds by locking doors and windows when necessary.
• Monitor for any signs of vandalism or intrusion.

Other Duties

• Assist with special events and church functions as needed.
• Obtain quotes from contractors as needed.
• Maintain and organize supplies such as cleaning products and bathroom supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

• Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
• Primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor work.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
• May be exposed to varying temperatures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
