Position Overview:
The Recreation Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing recreational activities that improve the physical, mental, and emotional health of our residents. This role requires a creative, energetic leader who can implement a variety of programs that engage residents of all abilities, ensuring a high quality of life.
Recreation Director Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a variety of recreational programs that meet the diverse needs and interests of residents.
- Lead and supervise the recreation department staff, including assistants and volunteers.
- Coordinate and schedule daily and special events, activities, and outings.
- Assess residents’ abilities and interests to tailor activities that promote engagement and socialization.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation from all residents.
- Ensure that all activities comply with state and federal regulations and safety standards.
- Document and track residents’ participation in activities, as well as progress and outcomes.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure residents’ holistic care needs are met.
Recreation Director Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a recreation or activities leadership role in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate recreational programs for seniors, especially in a nursing home setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate others in individual and group settings.
- Understanding of the physical and mental challenges that elderly residents may face.
- Certification in Therapeutic Recreation (preferred, but not required).
