Job Summary
The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving sales growth through strategic partnerships with new and existing customers and vendors. This role includes developing and executing sales strategies, managing revenue and expense planning, and overseeing the performance of sales and retail associates. The position also involves managing vendor relationships by offering strategic guidance that aligns with the interests of vendors, customers, and the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement innovative sales plans, strategies, and promotions to achieve market-specific objectives.
- Manage sales expenses and oversee the profit and loss (P&L) performance for the assigned territory.
- Establish pricing strategies and category goals tailored to individual markets and zones.
- Oversee the selection and launch of new products, programs, and processes to sustain sales growth across all categories.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key executives and stakeholders at both customer and vendor organizations.
- Resolve issues involving customers, vendors, and associates promptly and fairly.
- Represent the company at major presentations, business reviews, and industry events.
- Supervise and mentor Key Account Managers and Retail Associates, providing performance feedback and development opportunities.
- Drive team performance by coaching and developing talent to achieve business goals.
- Execute additional responsibilities as required to support business objectives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic planning, sales forecasting, and execution within a retail or CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) environment.
- Experience in the deli business is required.
- Established relationships with manufacturers and retailers in the Northeast and/or Mid-Atlantic regions, a plus.
- Demonstrated success in driving sales, particularly in launching new products in emerging markets.
- Proven ability to manage expenses and achieve targeted sales goals.
- Prior experience in leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Flexibility to travel and accommodate a dynamic work schedule.
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency in analytics, technology, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with expertise in delivering presentations and creating marketing materials.
