Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counselor to join our team. As a Counselor, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support to individuals and families seeking assistance with housing-related issues. Your role will involve assessing clients' needs, providing counseling and education on various housing programs, foreclosure prevention, rental assistance, and budgeting, among other related topics. Duties:
- Conduct individual counseling sessions to assess clients' housing situations, financial circumstances, and develop personalized treatment plans.
- Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to clients, offering guidance on fair housing pre-purchase, mortgage delinquency, foreclosure prevention, rental assistance programs, budgeting, credit repair, and other housing-related matters.
- Educate clients on available HUD programs, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.
- Assist clients in developing personalized action plans and budget to achieve their housing goals.
- Collaborate with other team members and community partners to ensure clients receive comprehensive support services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation in accordance with HUD and organizational guidelines.
- Stay updated on current housing policies, regulations, and market trends to provide informed guidance to clients.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- HUD Certified Housing Counselor designation required. (minimum of 6 months)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, counseling, finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in housing counseling or related field.
- Proven experience in crisis management and intervention.
- Knowledge of Fair Housing regulations and LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) program is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HUD programs, housing laws, and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management software.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with clients.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively.
- Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
Additional Information:
- Expected Hours per Week: Variable, based on client needs.
- Pay Rate: Minimum Wage (Payment per completed counseling session with each client).
