PACE (Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement) is a network of foundations and funders that invest in civic engagement and democratic practice. As a membership network, providing benefits and services to members is the heart of what we do. In accordance with the rapid growth and renewed attention our priorities are receiving, we seek to deepen and expand member services and programming by allocating additional dedicated capacity toward these functions. The main charge of the Director of Member Engagement will be to curate our members’ experience with PACE. This means deeply understanding each of our members’ unique needs, expectations, and opportunities to ensure PACE can support them individually, as well as identify opportunities for collective learning and engagement between members and across the network.Approximately 25-30% of the role will be focused on strategy, visioning, and relationship-building (the “big picture”), and the remaining 70-75% on design, execution, and delivery of activities and services (the “hands-on work”). The primary functions are programmatic and partnership-oriented in nature; some development, recruitment, and communications work is inherent but is primarily led by other PACE staff.Primary ResponsibilitiesDeepen and expand interactions between PACE and its members; manage, strengthen, and extend member benefits, services, and supports accordingly.Work with members one-on-one to understand their goals and objectives within PACE and create individualized and mutually beneficial plans to achieve them.Utilize individual plans to design and execute membership-wide events, including meetings, webinars, conference calls, working groups, and other relationship and network-building activities.Serve as a point of contact for members and keep apprised of their interests, activities, challenges, and work; find ways for PACE to support / advance in mutually beneficial ways.Identify new mechanisms / avenues to support members’ efforts, both by identifying new service opportunities and expanding the reach of current activities (through partnerships, conferences, etc.).Oversee and manage the onboarding and orientation process for new members.Maximize participation in and satisfaction with PACE programs, events, and activities.Use individual member plans to outreach and engage members, and ensure participation, satisfaction, and maximum value to members.Identify prospective members, attendees, and partners; support outreach to these audiences and manage relationships accordingly.Serve as a hub for the PACE team by ensuring alignment / cohesion between various streams of programmatic and member-serving work.Ensure member voices are fully integrated in, and member participation is maximized across, all streams of PACE work (including programs, communications, external affairs).Opportunity DescriptionWork with Communications and Marketing Director to identify opportunities to amplify members’ work and learning to each other, as well as to our peers in the field of philanthropy.Manage and support the work of PACE Fellows; ensure maximum integration of their learning / activities / relationships into the organization’s strategy, network, and programming.Serve as a peer / partner to Executive Director in brand-building, recruitment, thought leadership, and external affairs functions.Other duties as assigned.Must-Have Qualities : Strong commitment to vision, mission, and values of PACE (See PACEfunders.org / mission).Experience creating and managing programming for a philanthropic audience and keen understanding of the principles and practices of civic engagement (approximately 6-8 years of experience ideal).Self-starter with significant initiative, intuition, autonomy, and drive; able to work independently with little need for close management.Personable, relatable, and relationship-oriented—works well with all types of people and brings out the best in those around them.Thoughtful and insightful—ability to anticipate, appreciate, and reconcile diverse and complex perspectives.Flexible and dynamic—can adapt and iterate to changing or ambiguous circumstances smoothly.Keen attention to detail and ability to produce consistently high-quality work.Ability and willingness to travel (est. 20% time) and work occasional nights / weekends as needed.Nice-to-Have Experiences : Working with networks or membership organizations.Working in small, virtual teams that span time zones.Identifying new revenue opportunities and / or business models.Managing budgets and forecasting revenues.Integrating an “equity lens” into organizational culture and practice.Other Details : PACE’s office is based in Washington, DC; possibility for position to be based elsewhere.Ideal start date is fall 2017.Given remote flexibility, candidate must be able to maintain their own office / work schedule.Salary range low-to-mid $90s, commensurate with experience.Benefits include generous leave policy (24 days / year 11 federal holidays) and 3% IRA match.PACE actively seeks all types of diversity, including racial / ethnic, experience, and perspective.Equal opportunity employer.Resume and cover letter to Kristen@PACEfunders.org; Reviewed on rolling basis until filled.#J-18808-Ljbffr
