What we are looking for:
What you’ll do:
- Laboratory tasks related to receiving, organizing, and preparing patient tissue samples for macroscopic evaluation by the Grossing Technician. These include (but not limited do: Confirming patient identity, accessioning specimens and preparing and correctly labeling specimen blocks.
- Gross entry - Assisting with entering information provided by the Grossing Technician into the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Laboratory tasks related to receiving, organizing, and preparing patient tissue samples for microscopic evaluation by the Dermatopathologist. These include Correctly labeling completed slides and slide packaging and send-out.
- Assisting with laboratory send-outs to include slide and block requests.
- General lab maintenance to include slide and block organization and storage and Maintenance of CLIA required records and documentation.
- Assistance with completing and maintaining all compliance related paperwork to include temperature and humidity information, chemical reagent log sheets, patient information logs, and quality assurance forms.
- Adhering to all safety protocols.
- Provides excellent customer service by greeting them in a competent and courteous, in person or on the telephone and answering or referring inquires.
- Responsible for accurately and timely completing documentation using both Electronic Medical Record and any required paper documentation while ensuring patient confidentiality.
- Ensures that blood/body fluids, biohazard materials, needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed of, according to infection control guidelines.
- Monitors expiration dates and takes action accordingly. Recognizes usage trends affecting unit supplies and makes recommendations for adjustments.
- Participates in staff meetings and workgroups by providing constructive input for practice improvements and solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
It’ll help to have/be:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work with an Electronic Health Record and other related E-Systems.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior anatomic pathology laboratory preferred, but not required.
Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks, following through to completion. - Identifies self-learning needs related to job description and seeks out appropriate resources to meet learning needs.
- Maintains regular, reliable and on-site attendance as scheduled by your supervisor.
- Maintains positive relationships with patients/families, peers, vendors and other team members.
Qualifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Preferred but not required, Prior anatomic pathology laboratory.
- Preferred but not required, An associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of training and education. Ideally 60 semester credit hours from an accredited institution that include the following:
- 6 semester credit hours of chemistry
- 6 semester credit hours of biology
- 12 semester credit hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
