This Machinist role is responsible for operating and maintaining the CNC equipment safely and efficiently to achieve the quality and production standards of the company. This position works with fabrication, assembly, material handling, and the machine shop as well as the planning and engineering departments.
Work Type (Onsite):
This position will be based onsite at our Ooltewah, TN facility. This job opening is not eligible for immigration/work visa sponsorship
Shift Timings: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Charged with the responsibility of defining obstacles and aiding in creating solutions concerning safety, identifying safety hazards, and suggesting corrective actions.
- Set up and operate Toolroom equipment (i.e., lathe, mills, broach, grinders, etc.) and machine parts to job specifications
- Review job orders and bring in the required material into the shop from the warehouse
- Operate multi-head CNC-controlled machines.
- Fabricate part(s) to blueprint specification using an appropriate machine(s) and processes, such as Strippit, Whitney, Cincinnati Press Brake, Koike Torch.
- Ability to operate general fabrication equipment (i.e. Mubea, Carlton Radial Arm Drill, Roller, etc.).
- Operate the overhead cranes in a safe manner per company safety protocols.
- Organize paperwork to ensure jobs are completed as per company standards.
- Work with the CNC programmer to maximize plate usage for the highest efficiency.
- Perform scheduled (daily, weekly, and monthly) preventative maintenance in the workstation/work area.
- Operate a forklift to bring the completed job orders to other departments when required.
- Liaise with fabrication, assembly, other material handlers, and machine shops, as well as planning and engineering departments.
- Log in and scan job orders into a computer system when required.
- Assist with 5S organization & cleaning initiatives: lean manufacturing, productivity improvements, and maintaining key metrics in the overall performance.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental procedures, policies, and practices, and report any potential hazards tothe supervisor.
- Attend meetings and training as required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 2 years in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment preferred, but not required
- Experience with CNC machines preferred
- Experience in driving a forklift and overhead cranes is required.
- Training will be provided if needed.
- Attention to detail is required.
- Basic computer skills are required, and good organizational, prioritizing, & problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork and self-directed with the ability to take initiative.
- Excellent critical thinking, communication, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment dealing with ad-hoc issues when required.
