Summary

The Sr. Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning, safety, and efficiency of all mechanical, electrical, and facility systems within the property management operations of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland Diocesan Center, the Cathedral of the Incarnation, and associated parishes and locations. This individual, under the direction of the Diocesan Property Manager, will assist in leading preventive and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshoot complex issues, and work closely with other diocesan staff and constituent members as needed and requested.


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in property maintenance, possess strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills as well as demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on all equipment and machinery assigned, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Specific examples include: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, drywall repair, appliance repair, and others.
  • Assistance in snow removal as conditions require.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system malfunctions in a timely and efficient manner, recommending further action or an outside vendor when the situation warrants.
  • Organization: Maintain, clean, and organize storage and Maintenance Shop. 
  • Inspections: Conducts regular general inspections of buildings and grounds as assigned. Reports persistent findings of these inspections to Diocesan Property Manager with appropriate recommendations for proactive solutions.
  • Conduct additional inspections monthly and quarterly as scheduled.
  • System Upgrades & Modifications: Lead or assist in system upgrades, improvements, and equipment installations as needed to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technicians (maintenance & janitorial), fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an organized inventory of parts & supplies, ensuring timely procurement and cost-effective management of materials, in coordination with the Diocesan Property Manager.
  • Parish Advisement: Assist the Diocesan Property Manager, when requested, in advising parishes and organizations of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland on property maintenance-related questions.
  • Room Management: Assist in the setup/preparation and tear down of room setups for various events that occur in the Diocesan Center and Cathedral of the Incarnation.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for self and team.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation for equipment, inspections, and repairs. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other members of diocesan staff to address facility and equipment needs and provide support for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in a 24-hour emergency maintenance on-call schedule on a rotating basis, acting as the lead technician for emergency repairs, providing quick solutions during unplanned downtime or emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Associates degree or technical certification in maintenance or a related field dessired.
  • 3-5 years’ experience – preferably in the area of property/facilities maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and maintenance management software.
  • Solid understanding of safety procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both written and in speech.
  • Must be punctual, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation required.


REQUIREMENTS


  1. Must be able to work evenings and weekends occasionally. 
  2. Ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds as needed; prolonged walking and standing; ladders, crawl spaces, etc. 
  3. Ability to travel across the geographical boundaries of the Diocese and respond quickly to emergency property matters.
