Job Title: Camp Counselor
Reports To: Camp Coordinator at assigned day camp site
City Camp is a summer day camp program sponsored and run by the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania.
City Camp is a transformative camp centered around the gospel. Designed for youth ages 6-12. This camp blends youth Bible study with a fun educational enrichment experience. The program is held in the greater Philadelphia area focusing on urban communities. Camp counselors will be assigned to 1 of the 4 church camp sites: 14 North 41st Street, 3554 N Sixth St, 6838 Woodland Ave, ) The camps include fun activities that promote healthy mind and healthy body mindset.
Program Objectives:
- Spiritual Growth: Deepen participants' understanding of Scripture and their relationship with God through daily Bible study and devotionals.
- STEAM Fun: Campers will engage in exciting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) projects that challenge their minds and encourage problem-solving in a fun and interactive way.
- Health & Wellness: Campers will learn through interactive games and challenges about mental health, healthy body (exercise and healthy eating), and self-care.
- Team Building : Through group activities , campers will develop essential skills such as communication and problem solving.
- Fun: There are built in day field trips (example. pool, cooking classes for youth, museum).
The Counselor’s duties include:
1. Working with the day camp team to implement and evaluate camp curriculum.
2. Leading small and large group activities with campers.
3. Providing supervision and care for campers.
4. Implementing safety and risk management guidelines
5. Attending all required team training and meetings.
6. Serving as a role model to fellow team members, campers, and other community members in the areas of professionalism and ministry.
7. Maintain healthy relationships with fellow team members, campers, parents, parish contacts, volunteers, and the host community.
8.Serving as a leader within the staff community.
9. Performing other duties as assigned by the Site or Camp Coordinator, for the good of the ministry.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Age 18 years or older.
- Must have ahigh school diploma with college enrollment or greater
- Has a passion and heart for working with children and youth in an urban context.
- Must be sympathetic to basic Christian teachings.
- Flexibility to work in various locations and environments (5 days in person; 8:00-330p)
- Strong creativity, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must have (or be willing to obtain) first aid and CPR certification.
- Musical talent is not required, but a plus.
- Desire to learn and grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
- Must have a child abuse and criminal background clearance prior to start date
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and kneel for long periods of time.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes, crates, and other program supplies.
- Endurance to work irregular hours and long days while constantly providing care for and supervising campers.
Compensation:
- Stipend of $1600 for attendance for full length of camp.
