What are the responsibilities and job description for the Theatre Teacher position at Epitome of Soul?
Epitome of Soul is seeking a dynamic and experienced Theatre Teacher to join our team and contribute to our arts education program. Epitome of Soul is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012, dedicated to providing arts programming for students. Our mission is to place arts back into schools and communities through education, advocacy, mentorship, and scholarships.
Position: Theatre Teacher
Location: Dover,DE (in-person)
Type: Part-time/Contract
Reporting to: Program Director
Responsibilities:
- Teach theatre classes to students in a 1st -5th grade setting during our Spring, Summer, and Fall Programs.
- Develop engaging lesson plans based on the organization's thematic units and complete pre and post assessments.
- Guide students in learning acting techniques, improvisation, character development, and stagecraft.
- Support students in creating their own performances for an end-of-year compilation showcase or video.
- Utilize our online platform to assess student progress and provide feedback.
- Foster a creative and collaborative learning environment that encourages student participation and enjoyment.
- Actively participate in bi-weekly staff meetings.
- Attend approximately two professional development sessions per quarter to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Intermediate level of industry experience in acting and theatre.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at any level.
- Comfort and familiarity with technology, including video conferencing systems (e.g., Zoom), Google Classroom, and CRM platforms. Video editing skills are a plus.
- Creativity and the ability to create a valuable learning experience that students will respect and enjoy.
- Strong time management skills, including adhering to class start and end times and timely submission of deliverables.
- Passion for teaching children and belief in our mission.
Compensation:
- Compensation will be commensurate with the level of experience.
