Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)

 

EpiVax is seeking a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to oversee our Commercial Immunology Research and Vaccine Development groups. The CSO will report to the CEO and will be responsible for setting and leading the execution of the company’s scientific strategy. This role is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated self-starter and visionary leader with a strong desire to make a critical contribution to scientific developments. This will be a high-profile leadership position with an opportunity to deliver innovation in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced biotech company environment.  

 

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in immunology, translational research, development of biologic products, and vaccine design/development, and commercial research.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the company's scientific strategy in alignment with the company's mission and vision with EpiVax Board.
  • Oversee and drive the Commercial (Pre-clinical) Immunology Research to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Participate in business initiatives that further the strategic and business objectives of the company as approved by board.
  • Provide immunogenicity assessment expertise not limited to the following:
    • Development and improvement of EpiVax in silico tools with the CTO team.
    • Development of proper analysis of various biologic modalities with the IMF team.
    • Launch new commercial assays directed to various biologic modalities with the Lab assay development team.
  • Manage Directors and Scientists on scientific team to successfully execute on the development strategy and scientific projects.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams, collaborators/consultants to plan and execute on the overall research and development plans.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify new product development opportunities.
  • Represent EpiVax at scientific conferences and events, communicate EpiVax discoveries to the scientific community, promote EpiVax products through presentations and publications.
  • Stay connected and current with scientific community, latest scientific discoveries and industry trends, potential technology driven opportunities and alerts from competitors.
  • Participate in business development efforts, working with other EpiVax colleagues to identify the market for new products, and assess quality and scope of commercial projects, and develop collateral material.
  • Report review of EpiVax Fee for Service products, final review and signoff on commercial reports.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including academic partners, government agencies, and industry associations.
  • Oversee the scientific team in submission of grants and paper publications.
  • Communicate program progress and issues to executive leadership/EpiVax board.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • PhD (or MD with experience) in immunology, microbiology, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in immunology research and biologics and vaccine design.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing teams in commercial research settings.
  • Strong experience with immunogenicity studies of CAR-T, Gene Therapy, Checkpoint inhibitors, Tolerance inducing therapies, recombinant proteins, and synthetic peptides, as well as immunogenicity risk analysis. 
  • Expertise with vaccine and biologics development standards for FDA filings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated and significant publication track record.
  • Extensive network of collaborators and contacts in the field of immunology research, immunogenicity risk assessment, and vaccine design.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to immunology research and vaccine design.
  • Extensive experience as leader and member of a scientific team.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.
