Professional Engineer (PE-I) (Flood Control)
Job Summary
The preferred candidate for the Project Engineer I role will be a licensed Civil Engineer in Arizona or become registered within 6 months and will serve as the lead production engineer for minor to mid-level difficulty drainage tasks provided by the Flood Control team. These tasks will require experience in both performing and delegating technical modeling tasks to less experienced engineers. The Project Engineer role provides technical support for such tasks such as 1D/2D hydraulic models, rainfall runoff models like HEC1 & HEC-HMS, FLO-2D modeling, and other drainage design calculations. This candidate should be able to demonstrate a growing level of responsibility for training and directing jr. engineers, overseeing project budgets & schedules, determining a preferred project approach, developing minor scopes and fees, coordinating on issues with subconsultants and reviewing agencies, and they should be comfortable stamping their own drainage deliverables with minimal provided oversight. Experience using GIS to prepare model input/output datasets and exhibits is preferred. Core Responsibilities
- Provide direction, coordination, and QA/QC to EITs, CAD Operators, and Designers.
- Responsible for the design of simple projects, including grading, drainage, water/sewer, and utilities.
- Draft complex report documents with minimal guidance.
- Perform final review of simple utility and drainage reports and stamp for approval.
- Develop complex models independently.
- Lead meetings with clients and review agencies.
- Present technical information.
- Monitoring compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Perform quality control on tasks, budgets, schedules, and plans and report on the project status.
- Determine project specifications.
- Prepare cross-sections for plan documents.
- Format base files from external project team members for public works projects.
- Perform design engineering on specific scopes or phases.
- Perform basic hydraulic and hydrology calculations.
- Prepare specifications.
- Responsible for completing timecards accurately and on time.
- May require attending project team and public meetings after hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Achieve a 75-85% Billable Utilization Rate. Non-billable activities include company & team meetings, professional development, community involvement, innovation time, culture & engagement activities, learning, and training.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Construction Management, or related Engineering field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in project planning and execution for land development projects.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and exposure to scheduling software ideal.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to work with multiple disciplines.
- Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
- Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
Required Licensure
- Professional Engineering License.
Physical Requirements
- Required to stand, walk, and sit.
- The position may require a visit to project sites occasionally.
- The position requires a normal range of hearing.
- The employee must be able to lift 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Requires prolonged sitting with 15% of the time spent bending and reaching.
- Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
- Noise levels are consistent with a standard office environment.
