What are the responsibilities and job description for the Board Member position at Equality Charter School?
Who are we looking for?
- We are seeking individuals who are dedicated to giving back (in terms of time, money, or experience) to a non-profit charter school in a meaningful way.
What does a Board Member do?
- Provides oversight to school leadership by monitoring school goals.
- Hires, supports, and evaluates the Executive Director.
- Develops policies and procedures to fulfill the mission and goals of the school.
- Raises funds to support school programs.
- Ensures the school is fiscally responsible.
How much time is required?
- Monthly Board meeting:
- 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm (dinner is provided)
- MS Location: 4140 Hutchinson River Parkway East, Bronx, NY 10475
- In person attendance preferred (video conferencing may be arranged)
- Monthly Committee Involvement (varies depending upon committee membership)
What does committee evolvement entail?
- Governance Committee
- Meets at least quarterly via conference call
- Is responsible for evaluating the Executive Director, monitoring for leadership succession, and evaluating the roles and responsibilities of the Board.
- Finance Committee
- Meets monthly via conference call
- Is responsible for overseeing the preparation of budgets, financial reports and supervising the management of Equality’s finances.
- Development Committee
- Meets at least quarterly via conference call
- Is responsible for the development and implementation of fundraising goals.
- Academic Accountability Committee
- Meets at least quarterly via conference call
- Is responsible for evaluating whether Equality is adhering to its Charter and achieving its goals of attaining high student academic achievement, preparing its students for success in college and fostering active citizenship.
