Basic Function :
Has responsibility for monitoring all direct aspects of chemical process production, by field observation and by control computer monitoring. Must know details of chemical processes employed, associated hazards of chemical processes employed, and mechanical equipment utilized in assigned units. Must take corrective and preventive actions to keep the chemical processes within acceptable control guidelines. Must take readings and recognize abnormal conditions while performing daily routine tasks.
Principle Accountabilities
Monitors field equipment (by inspection & instrumentation), adjusts, and troubleshoots equipment as needed. Maintains written record of field instrumentation readings.
Starts & stops compressors, blowers, pumps, etc.
Collects process samples, runs lab analyses on process samples, assesses need for process changes based on analytical results, and documents results & actions.
Must frequently climb ladders and stairs to access all necessary aspects of process equipment. May also be required to climb into pipe racks with safety harness.
Turns valves and adjusts controls associated with various piping, vessels, and other equipment. Observes unit and monitors pressures, levels, & temperatures on vessels and moving equipment.
Maintains electronic logbook of all process changes (equipment state and flow), suppressed alarms, deviations from key communicated process parameters, all reactions to quality deviations related to the Sodium Bicarbonate Production Parameters specific process parameters and related SOP's, equipment malfunctions, deviations from planned events and safety issues in a timely and accurate manner.
Prepares equipment for maintenance.
Participates in and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
Complies with all Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental policies and procedures. Incorporates these requirements into applicable operating procedures and work instructions.
No regular circumstances have been identified that would require respiratory protection. However non-routine circumstances may require the use of respiratory protective equipment.
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of the policies and practices relating to the quality and food safety plans and performs work in accordance with these policies and practices.
Other duties / responsibilities may be assigned as needed by management in support of site objectives
The employee will work 12 hour day shift, seven days on, seven days off. This schedule also requires being available for overtime during certain periods (either scheduled overtime, or being on call in case unscheduled overtime is required), may include working weekends, and holidays.
12 hour rotating shift
NOTE : Employee working in trainee capacity will work under the direct supervision of a qualified operating technician.
Technical, Managerial and HR Skills Required
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
Must have a High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Individual past activities or work experience must indicate ability to organize, prioritize, and complete several multi-task assignments simultaneously.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is often exceeds 85 decibels.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, ascending as much as 120 feet within 20 minutes, under exterior weather conditions. May be required to perform this task several times during a day.
The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 55 LBS. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The employee must be able to perform work tasks while wearing a full face respirator and pass an annual spirometry and respirator fit test.
