Sr Project Mechanical Engineer
Overview:
Our client provides multi-discipline engineering, architecture, and environmental services to a wide variety of clients. Established in the 1960s, our client has a strong history of exceptional past performance in building renovations, building systems (MEP), public works projects, infrastructure development, and environmental compliance, investigation, and remediation. FPM has an exciting opportunity in our Bohemia headquarters for a Mechanical Project Engineer position.
The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for the design of HVAC, mechanical, heating, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new construction, renovations, additions, and system upgrades/retrofits, construction administration and project management responsibilities for clients in state, local, and federal government and private industry.

Professional Engineer Registration in other state is helpful.

The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for the design of HVAC, mechanical, heating, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new construction, renovations, additions, and system upgrades/retrofits, construction administration and project management responsibilities for clients in state, local, and federal government and private industry.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Engineering design of HVAC systems, air handling units, Mechanical systems, Heating systems, boilers, including sustainable design in all phases of a project.
- Perform field inspections for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, fire alarm and sprinkler systems; may include low-voltage electrical systems (CCTV, Security Access).
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications. Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to define project scope, objectives, and requirements. Create project plans and timelines including development of project costs and focus on quality.
- Address any technical issues and challenges that may arise during project execution and provide timely solutions.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on project status, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their satisfaction with the project.
- Construction administration services, such as: submittal and shop drawing reviews, review and respond to RFI, the schedule and coordination.

Education and/or Experience:
- 8 years of broad-based mechanical design experience in building systems of government, industrial, commercial facilities.
- 8 years of mechanical/MEP engineering design, construction administration services, and project management experience including conceptualize solutions, development of HVAC models, load calculations, site surveys, program reports, design review, air handling units, rooftop units, hot water heaters, boiler rooms, digital control systems, heating systems, equipment submittals; project schedules, cost estimates; renewable energy systems; and sustainable design.
- Additional experience in plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, CCTV, Security Card Access, Structural, Fueling systems helpful.
- Project management experience from onset to completion, and work with subcontractors/subconsultants.
- Construction administration services experience including develop punch lists, working with subcontractors, permitting.
- Proficient with building codes and guidelines such as NYS Energy Code, NYS Mechanical Code, NYS Building Code, and NFPA codes helpful.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- Professional engineering license (P.E.) required
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong AutoCAD skills.
- Demonstrated ability as a problem solver.
- Competency with MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Experience with online project management platforms such as BlueBeam, ProCore, and Submittal Exchange.
- Direct experience in systems installation or with a contractor is a plus.
NYS Professional Engineer Registration is preferred.
