Ida Culver House Broadview, a beautiful Era Living retirement community in North Seattle, is seeking a full-time Memory Care Activities Director to become the newest member of our leadership team. This position currently supervises five recreation assistants and is responsible for designing, facilitating, and overseeing a comprehensive, high-quality activities program for residents living in our secure dementia unit, The Terrace. The Terrace is home to older adults living with various forms of mid to late-stage dementia.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Model, use, and teach the Best Friends® Approach to Dementia Care (training to be provided)
• Design and lead cognitive enrichment, physical fitness, and social programs for both large and small groups, delegating as needed.
• Collaborate with residents and families to determine activity preferences and establish programming goals.
• Review new residents’ life stories and complete summaries for staff.
• Create monthly activity calendars, book entertainers and vendors, coordinate special events, and manage catering as needed. Provide transportation for group outings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to help residents thrive in the memory care environment.
• Supervise team of recreation assistants, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
• Work with the Executive Director to create and manage an annual activities budget, track spending, and manage supplies.
  
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Skilled in designing creative programs tailored to various clinical and cognitive abilities.
• Knowledge of dementia and skilled in communicating with persons living with dementia, preferred.
• Able to drive residents in minivans and minibuses and ability to do so safely
• Strong time management skills, able to schedule tasks efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and remain calm under pressure, using sound judgment.
• Computer proficiency: able to efficiently use a variety of programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Ability to pass DSHS background check, required.
  
  
  

Education and Experience:

• Experience working with program design and development
• Experience working with older adults or persons with cognitive impairments, preferred
• Experience leading fitness groups or working with senior fitness programs, preferred
• Experience managing employees, required
• Valid Washington driver’s license and safe driving record required; must be at least 25 years old
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation and/or CTRS, preferred or 1 years of similar experience, required
• Required:
• First Aid and CPR certified or able to obtain within 30 days of hire
• Food Handler’s Certificate or able to obtain within 14 days of hire
• Washington State Alcohol Permit or able to obtain within 30 days of hire
• Caregiver Dementia and Caregiver Mental Health training or able to obtain within 120 days of hire
• Must complete 70-hour course to obtain Home Care Aide certificate within 120 days of hire (Not required if worked in a boarding home setting in 2011)
