Job Summary:
ERCO’s Port Edward’s Plant is looking for a self-motivated, safety-conscious, Laboratory Student Intern to join our team! The Laboratory Student Intern will be responsible for sampling, standard testing, measuring, recording, and results entry. You will provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Quality control analysis of final product and in-process liquors, following company procedures and safety protocols.
Ensure all sampling, analytical, and monitoring equipment is maintained and within calibration.
Routine analysis of utility water and addition of treatment chemicals to cooling towers and boilers.
Analysis of outflow environmental samples for discharge permit.
Preparation of various reagents for lab and operators test stations.
Sample collection for external testing.
Occasional supervision of barge loading.
Test results data entry and creation of Certificates of Analysis when needed.
The Laboratory Student Intern will test and analyze samples using a variety of methods including but not limited to:
Ion chromatography – HPLC, Gas, ICP, and Ion
Automated and manual titrations
Spectrophotometry – Atomic Absorption, Emission, and UV/Vis
pH
Conductivity
Education & Qualifications:
3rd or 4th year Chemistry (or related S.T.E.M.) Bachelor’s of Science Degree
Previous work in an industrial lab is advantageous
Must have a strong understanding of OSHAand SDS.
Must be knowledgeable in health, safety and environmental standards.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques, terminology, equipment and materials.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of chemical testing and analyses including the preparation of materials, equipment and samples.
Knowledge of data analysis and evaluation against acceptance criteria.
Ability to use and maintain laboratory equipment for standard chemical, biological and physical testing.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work on a dynamic team and understand/support team goals.
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Attention to detail and ability to work safely
Proactiveness and good communication
Hourly Rate: $21-25
