Provides electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the planning and operation of the electric power system. Implements appropriate system modeling, develops tools and procedures to monitor and control the system, performs system studies, analyzes simulated or actual operating results, develops solutions to current or future system issues, and appropriately reports findings and recommendations.JOB DUTIESUnderstands the basic principles, theories and concepts related to the profession and learns how to apply them within the ERCOT culture.Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.Performs all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory requirements and organization policies and proceduresPerforms engineering studies including power flow, voltage security, and / or dynamic stability analysisRuns appropriate scenarios and input variations to result in robust results, analyzes study accuracy and assigns confidence metrics, helps formulate conclusions and recommendations, prepares reports and presentationsDevelops and documents operating plans, procedures and limits that allow the reliable and efficient operation of the systemPerforms and / or reviews performance of resource qualification testing and performance evaluationAnalyzes system control performance and provides tuning and other modifications to maintain reliable operations, including analysis for development of ancillary service requirements and quantitiesAssists in the preparation of operations reports for management, NERC, ERCOT, and other entitiesGathers and analyzes information on operating conditions and events, helps formulate conclusions and improvement recommendations and assists in preparing reportsSupports development and performance of advanced applications for operations, including State Estimator, Voltage Security Analysis, Load, and renewables Forecast, Contingency Analysis, Power Flow, and Transient Stability AnalysisDevelops and deploys situational awareness and system monitoring applications and tools for operations, management, and external entitiesProvide 24 / 7 support to the ERCOT Control Room through On-Call rotation.Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes as directed.May provide on the job training or help oversee the work of other engineers / analystsTypically works independently on assignments and projectsParticipates in multifunctional teams to obtain input, address comments, and perform studiesAssists in developing tools, processes and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental / organizational efficienciesParticipates with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as neededREQUIRED EXPERIENCE : Minimum 8 years experience as a power system engineer or similar type role.Experience within the electric utility industry preferredPREFERRED EXPERIENCE : Experience working with EMS (State Estimator, Realtime Contingency Analysis, Voltage and Transient Stability Analysis).Experience with any of the following : VBA, Python, SQLExperience with Power flow analysis.EDUCATION (All Levels)Bachelor's Degree : Electrical Engineering or related field (Required)or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is requiredCERTIFICATIONPE Professional Engineer (Preferred)NERC Reliability Coordinator Certification (Preferred)Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOTWORK LOCATION – Taylor, TX : Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at minimum 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by managementOn-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the ManagerRemote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the timeThe foregoing description reflects the minimum qualifications and the essential functions of the position that must be performed proficiently with or without reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities.
