Resinall Corp, an Ergon company currently has an opening for a Material Handler in our Hattiesburg, Mississippi location. This position will be in rotating 12-hour shifts; 7:00am-7:00pm and 7:00pm-7:00am and will answer to the Shift Supervisor.

The Material Handler packages flaked resin into up to fifty-five (55) pound bags and super-sacks from a hopper by use of a mechanical bag loading device. Filled bags are removed from the loading machine and stacked onto a pallet. They are responsible for maintaining their work area in a professional manner, including the cleaning of all equipment, floors and surrounding areas. The Material Handler assists the Flaker Operator as directed. They may operate additional auxiliary equipment such as conveyors, dust collectors, ventilation equipment and forklift trucks. They may also be required to assist in packaging of liquid products or charging materials into reactors.


The duties of the Material Handler include but are not limited to the items outlined below and other tasks and duties as assigned by supervision in line with level of training.


Primary Duties:

  1. Filling bags up to 55 lb. (25 kg) with flaked resin from a collection hopper using a mechanical loading device.
  2. Filling super-sacks with flaked resin from a collection hopper using a loading device.
  3. Assure that packaged resin is within required weight limits.
  4. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work area.
  5. Operate additional auxiliary equipment such as conveyors, dust collectors, ventilation equipment and forklift trucks.
  6. Process rework as generated.

Secondary Duties:

  1. Assist the Flaker Operator as required.
  2. Assist Operators in the packaging of liquid products.
  3. Assist Operators in charging raw materials to reactors.
  4. Enter and help clean out reactors and blend kettles as required.

Qualifications

  • Education Level: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Required Experience: None

  • Specific Skills:

    • Reading/Writing: The employee must be able to read and write in order to understand written instructions and hazard warnings and to record information relating to his duties.
    • Limits/Tolerances: The employee must have the ability to calibrate, operate and read a scale in order to ensure that packaged resin is within the proper weight limits.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  1. Motor Coordination: Average aptitude for the ability to move hands and fingers easily and skillfully. The ability to work with hands for various functions such as placing, holding and turning motions.
  2. Agility: The employee must be able to take whatever action is required or necessary to avoid injury or otherwise protect oneself in the event of an emergency including, but not limited to, exiting the area without assistance.
  3. Standing: An employee is required to stand with good balance 100% of the time while working on a twelve-hour (12 hr.) shift. The employee would be required to stand for periods of 2 hours and 30 minutes or longer before having a break.
  4. Walking: An employee is required to walk 100% of the time while working in a 12-hour shift with a maximum distance of no more than 500 yards at a time. An employee will be required to climb both steps and ladders 100% of the time during a 12-hour shift.
  5. Carrying: An employee is required to pick up and carry up to a 55-pound (25 kg) bag at a time.
  6. Pushing: An employee is required to be able to push a hand truck with a weight force of approximately 25 pounds for a 55-gallon drum on a flat surface and up and down ramps. An employee is required to be able to push a hand truck loaded with a pallet of resin with a weight force of approximately 40 pounds on a flat surface.
  7. Pulling: An employee must be able to pull a hand truck with a weight force of approximately 25 pounds for a 55-gallon drum or a flat surface and up and down ramps. An employee is required to be able to pull a hand truck supporting a pallet of resin with a weight force of approximately 40 pounds on a flat surface.
  8. Stooping (bending from the waist): An employee is required to utilize proper lifting techniques during a 12-hour shift while picking up objects such as 55-pound (25 kg) resin bags.
  9. Speech: Should be able to verbally give instructions and generally communicate with other employees.
  10. Vision: The specific requirement for vision would be near and midrange, along with depth perception, to safely perform the job and remain aware of visual Hazard warnings in the production area. Eye protection must always be worn.
  11. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to wear a respirator as required. Must be able to wear protective clothing such as chemical resistant gloves, work gloves, and a hard hat.
  12. Hand Tasks: Must be able to grasp objects with both hands to safely move objects from place to place.
  13. Hearing: Should be adequate for receiving verbal instructions and heeding possible emergency hazard warnings.

  14. Lifting Demands: An employee is required to lift 55-pound (25 kg) bags of resin on a continuous basis over a 12-hour shift. The employee is required to be able to pick up objects from the floor, lift the objects (such as 50 lb. resin bags) and place the objects on a pallet to the height of over six feet.

  15. Confined Space Entry: Must be able to enter confined spaces to clean, repair, maintain, etc. Tanks and kettles are only two examples of confined spaces. Employees must be comfortable entering these confined areas if required.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Repetitive, Continuous Work- Must have high tolerance for situations requiring repetitive work, or continuously performing the same work, according to set procedures, sequences or paces required. (Consider jobs wherein for this factor when the work is performed according to a routine, or set sequence, and there is an absence of diversion or room for independent judgement.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

An employee is required to work in an environment in which the temperature ranges from <32°F through 110°F 100% of the time. Employees must be able to work in a noisy environment but will be required to wear hearing protection when necessary. The employee will be exposed to moving objects, sharp tools and equipment, and a continuous process. It is also necessary to wear respiratory and eye protection due to the possibility of a dusty environment. Limited ventilation will occur on a continuous basis.

Employee will be working with mechanized flaking and bagging equipment, conveyers, dust collectors, ventilation equipment and forklift trucks.
