Asphalt Binder Chemist Essential Functions Of Job
An Asphalt Binder Chemist evaluates the properties of asphalts, polymers, and/or other additives in asphalt binders to investigate their suitability for applications in the paving industry. The Chemist must possess the ability to multi-task and stay on top of tasks in a deadline driven environment, and he/she must display effective time management and organizational skills. The Chemist must take ownership and accountability of work to ensure it is neat, clean, and accurate. He/she will work on projects and matters of limited complexity in a supported role. Work is closely managed by the Technical Director-Asphalt Binders, as well as being supervised by the Group Leader.

Asphalt Binder Chemist Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Communicate with the Technical Director and Group Leader of the Asphalt Group on the status of all lab work.
- Qualified in all aspects of asphalt binder testing.
- Verify lab data is accurate and questionable results are re-evaluated as needed.
- Review all completed paperwork for accuracy regarding data, specifications, and formulations. Review and create reports as needed.
- Maintain an up-to-date, accurate, and thorough lab notebook that meets all requirements.
- Keep current with applicable testing requirements and standards (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.)
- Maintain lab equipment that is clean, calibrated, and in working order.
- Ensure the lab is clean and organized at the end of every day.
- Alert Group Leader when lab supply inventory is low to ensure levels are maintained.
- Knowledge and compliance with Ergon Asphalt & Emulsion Inc.'s Environmental Health & Safety rules, regulations, and policies.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Technical Director or Group Leader
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Engineering, or related technical field is required.
- Preferably 2 years of experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, and Outlook
