This role will be instrumental in designing and detailing drainage system components, supporting production teams, and advancing automation initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer – will be responsible for shop drawings, technical detailing, manufacturing coordination, and automation integration. This role will work closely with production teams, architects, engineers, contractors, and automation specialists to develop innovative solutions while ensuring manufacturability, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong CAD skills, knowledge of manufacturing processes, and a background in automation and system optimization.
Responsibilities:
Shop Drawing & Product Detailing
- Create and manage shop drawings for manufacturing and installation using AutoCAD and IronCAD.
- Read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil plans to develop accurate drainage system layouts.
- Generate 2D details for custom installations and specific project requirements.
- Assist in the creation of work orders, DXF files for CNC cutting, and fabrication sheets.
- Provide technical detailing and product specifications for both standard and custom drainage solutions.
Manufacturing & Production Coordination
- Work closely with production teams to ensure product manufacturability and efficiency.
- Provide additional information to production teams to facilitate manufacturing and resolve design issues.
- Support the development of fabrication drawings, manufacturing documents, and quality control specifications.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes such as press brake forming, laser cutting, plasma cutting, waterjet cutting, welding, and plastics manufacturing.
Automation & Process Optimization
- Support the development and implementation of automation tools for manufacturing and engineering workflows.
- Assist in integrating IronCAD-based automation (AMP) to streamline shop drawing generation and work order creation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize automation processes that enhance production accuracy and efficiency.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying automation opportunities in manufacturing and design workflows.
Technical Support & Sales Assistance
- Serve as a technical resource for the sales team and customers, addressing inquiries on:
- Chemical compatibility
- Hydraulic calculations
- Temperature compatibility
- General trench drain system questions
- Assist sales and engineering teams with the design and documentation of custom solutions.
Product Design & Development
- Develop 3D models for both standard and custom products using IronCAD.
- Support product innovation initiatives, improving existing designs and developing new solutions.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of spec sheets, fabrication sheets, and technical documentation.
Marketing & Visualization Support
- Create 3D models, renderings, and animations for marketing materials, including product images for website and ODIS (quotation system).
- Work with sales and marketing teams to produce visually accurate representations of trench drain installations and product features.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience in mechanical design, product detailing, automation, or manufacturing support.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Excel for design, documentation, and work order creation. Definite plus if you have experience with Ironcad.
- Knowledge of automation tools and process optimization within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil engineering plans.
- Experience with CNC machining, sheet metal forming, welding, and plastics manufacturing.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and refine designs for manufacturability.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with production teams, engineers, architects, and contractors.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
