PURPOSE: This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting Department. This role involves conducting research, analysis, and development of financial data, and summarizing information for audits and internal/external financial reporting. The Controller plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records.
Overview:
- Manages accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory and compliance
- Oversees the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
- Oversees their control systems, transaction-processing operations and policies and procedures
- Produces financial reports
- Coordinates the preparation of the corporate annual report
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Maintains accounting records and controls
- Maintains the chart of accounts
- Maintains an orderly accounting filing system
- Monitors financial health
- Ensures compliance with laws and regulations
Month End:
- Perform all balance sheet reconciliations; ensure accrual and prepaid accounts are accurate
- Review all month-end reports (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory, Payroll, Leases) for alignment with the General Ledger
- Post recurring journal entries, cash entries, and miscellaneous accruals
- Review subaccounts and correct and classification or General Ledger errors
- Assist with publishing monthly consolidated financial statements for management and ownership
- Conduct detailed income statement analysis; investigate and resolve anomalies
- Enter financial non-financial date into DIVA at quarter-end, ensuring alignment across DIVA, Flash Reports, and internal financial statements
Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or business administration
- 5-7 equivalent business experience for a major company or division of a large corporation
- Construction experience preferred
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel
- Supervising accounting staff
- Understanding of relevant laws and regulations
