Description of the Job:
Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation of vehicles and/equipment, usually of a single-axle type such as dump truck, mowers, sweeper, front end loader; performs other related duties as required.
Illustrative Duties: (The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed by this classification)
- Operates various types of trucks such as dump, snow plow, stake body, etc.
- May transport materials and/or personnel and performs laboring tasks when not operating equipment.
- Operates tractors with various detachable implements
- Hauls tools, equipment, supplies, and trash
- Assists in loading or unloading supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Maintains road and land surfaces through the use of shovels, rakes, and other equipment and tools
- Assists with the resurfacing of highways and roads; helps repair roads and sewer systems
- Performs the duties of a laborer or semi-skilled laborer.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Necessary Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (At the time of filing application).
- Knowledge of the use of various types of trucks such as dump and salt
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical labor for extended periods of time
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and the general public
Qualifications Desirable for Employment:
- Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed above.
- Completion of the twelfth school grade and two years of equipment operating experience
- Valid commercial driver’s license
- Erie County resident preferred
