Posting Notice: This position will primarily focus on collection development for children and youth.
Definition of Class
- Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Collections, a Librarian I- Collection Development Librarian performs duties related to core library functions including: collection development, answering requests for information, and offering friendly customer service. A Collection Development Librarian demonstrates leadership and engaged participation in system-wide and district-wide initiatives, and plays an active role in developing responsive library services to fulfill the ECPL's mission. Professionally represents the library both on and offsite.
Nature of Work
- This position requires self-directed work in an office setting, enthusiastic face-to-face service to the public, and outreach activity as a library liaison to the community. May coordinate the work of other staff within the location or department to achieve service goals. Library staff members work rotating weekends and up to two nights per week.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Interacts with patrons in-person, over the telephone, and online to offer assistance in accessing information and library collections in a variety of formats, including both print and digital, personally helping them find the best resource for what they need. Provides reference services for patrons of all ages at multiple service points within the library.
- Supplies a full range of patron services in obtaining requested material or information through computerized circulation system, inter-library loan, online catalog, searching bibliographies and electronic databases, and guides patrons in use of Internet services.
- Maintains expertise of library resources: print, digital, and special collections and provides extensive research assistance with both standard and specialized information resources and materials.
- Recommends and purchases a wide variety of collection items efficiently and effectively within the boundaries of a predefined materials budget. Evaluates current collection items for removal based on established guidelines. Assesses collections as a whole for timeliness, accuracy, and comprehensiveness. Promotes the collection through displays, flyers, and other means as needed.
- Analyzes and prepares monthly statistics. Evaluates outcomes and sets goals for collections.
- Participates in library committees, helping to set policies, address patron concerns, and guide purchasing decisions.
- Keeps up with developments in the library profession, including the subject areas of their collection responsibility.
- Plans and implements educational programming as needed.
- Adheres to library and information ethics standards, including a dedication to patron privacy.
- Performs other activities needed to maintain the public library.

Minimum Requirements
- Master's Degree in Library Science from a College or University Accredited by the American Library Association
- Minimum of 3 years of Public or Private Library Experience
- Must Provide Own Transportation
- Must be able to Type a Minimum of 30 Words Per Minute with Accuracy
- This job requires a high level of mobility: employee needs to stand for long periods of time, bend over, squat, twist, stoop, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Conditions Of Employment
- The selected candidate will be pre-employment required to obtain, at their own expense, 3 forms of clearance, including PA State Police Criminal History Record Check; PA Child Abuse History; and FBI Criminal History Background Check including finger printing.
Salary : $22
