Definition of Class
- Under direct Supervision, compiles, tabulated, and posts various receipts, performs related clerical duties and data entry, prepares accounting and related financial statements and receipts timely, processes payments via mail and front counter(s), responds to and assists with customer inquiries, and provides backup support as needed. Performs other related work duties as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs general clerical duties, including computer data entry, waiting on customers as front counter(s), answering telephone and emails, and preparing general correspondences.
- Aids in problem solving for taxpayers, various government bodies and elected officials, local tax collectors, mortgage and financial companies, and the general public.
- Provides customer services for both Tax Claim and Revenue front counter(s), phones, etc.
- Assists with the preparation of various tax sales, and other seasonal duties as required.
- Must be able to efficiently handle customer’s questions and to prioritize duties assigned on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
- Must be personally responsible for the accurate handling of all forms of payments, including large sums of cash, checks, and debit/credit cards.
- Accurate and timely reconciliation of daily transactions and receipts.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of modern accounting principles and practices, and office procedures and clerical methods.
- Ability to work accurately and rapidly with figures, cash, checks, debit/credit cards, customer payments and inquiries, incoming calls, etc.
- Ability to compile various financial data and prepare required reports in a timely manner.
- Accuracy, neatness of work, and integrity, are a necessity.
- Ability to operate office machines such as a computer, copy and fax machines, adding machine/calculator, etc.
- Requires the ability to interact face to face with the public in a calm, efficient, and accurate manner.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of Bookkeeping, Accounting, Bank Teller, or Accounts Receivable Experience.
- Must be able to Type a Minimum of 40 Words Per Minute with Accuracy
- Basic Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree or Secondary Education in a related field is preferred.
Conditions Of Employment
- A basic skills assessment of all requirements may be conducted to verify qualifications, knowledge, and skill level. An applicant must achieve a typing test score of 40 wpm, without errors, and a score of at least 70% in all other categories of testing in order to be considered.
