Erie Family Health Centers, a nationally recognized top workplace with 13 sites in Chicago and suburbs, is looking for a valuable addition to our Clinical Site team! Lab Assistants prepare specimens, carry out basic laboratory procedures and run simpler tests such as urinalysis. As with other types of medical assistants, those in the lab have clerical tasks such as greeting patients, informing them of the procedures, answering phones and emails, and maintaining records.

*Compensation is based on each candidate’s experience, skills and education within the range identified for the role. Candidates who meet the minimum requirements of the role will start at entry in the range. Any additional skills, experience and education will be reflected in the compensation offered.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Phlebotomy
- Performs basic laboratory procedures
- Specimen preparation
- Maintains daily quality control
- Performs proficiency testing
- Records and maintains appropriate logs
- Alerts providers of abnormal results
- Prepares inventory and order supplies
Qualifications
Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Certificate of training (Phlebotomist, l4e Emergency Medical Tech, Medical Assistant, other)
- Completion of an MA program is strongly preferred
- One to two years’ experience working in a medical setting as an MA or Lab Assistant preferred
Skills and Knowledge
Required:
- Bilingual (Spanish) dependent on site and the patients served on that site. (May be required to communicate with and assist non-English/Spanish only speaking patients and/or guests.)

- Fine motor skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Able to easily understand complex instructions
- Able and willing to maintain strict level of confidentiality regarding laboratory results and records
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- CPR certification – must always be current
